Did you know a hidden tooth infection may affect more than just your smile? 🦷🤎

Research suggests that apical periodontitis, an infection around a tooth’s root, may be associated with chronic inflammation and difficulties with blood sugar regulation.

A 2024 prospective cohort study explored how treating these infections may affect blood sugar control in people with diabetes. While the findings are promising, more research is needed to confirm the relationship.

Root canal treatment helps treat infection inside a tooth, but it is not a treatment for diabetes. Regular dental checkups can help identify problems early, even when there is no pain.

A 2024 study published in the Saudi Dental Journal found an association between impacted lower wisdom teeth and decay in neighboring second molars. When wisdom teeth tilt toward adjacent teeth, plaque and food debris can accumulate in areas that are difficult to clean.
