๐Ÿ‘‰ Almost 50% of adults over 30 years old have some form of Periodontal disease, even though it is preventable! ๐Ÿ‘ˆ

Periodontal disease or Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that injures the soft tissue and can damage the bone that supports your teeth if not properly cared for. This infection can lead to loose teeth or even loss of teeth.

What is the cause of Periodontal disease?? Poor dental hygiene (aka not brushing your teeth.)

Although we see individuals come into our office with periodontal disease quite often, this disease is largely preventable. Because we never want to see anyone suffer from this condition, we suggest that you follow these dental hygiene tips for preventative care! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿชฅ Brush twice a day
๐Ÿฆท Floss daily
๐Ÿ˜„ Visit the dentist regularly to ensure that you catch any sign of this disease at its onset
๐ŸŽ Eat clean, healthy foods
๐Ÿ’ง Drink plenty of water

If you follow these tips, you will most likely not develop this disease. That said, if you do get Periodontitis, visit us right away so that treatment will be effective.

If you have any questions about Periodontal disease or dental care in general, reach out to our office at (308) 236-9694!

School is back in Kearney! ๐ŸŽ’ โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿ““

Public schools started on August 11th, and the University of Nebraska begins soon (August 22nd)! We want to wish all students good luck this school year!

Remember to continue to care for your dental health as the busyness of the school year begins! Here are a few tips to ensure your pearly whites are healthy and happy this school year: ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜

โ˜€๏ธ Set a consistent morning routine - If you don't have a schedule that you follow every morning, your oral health might be forgotten in the craziness of getting ready, packing lunch, and heading out. Make sure to give yourself enough time in the morning for self-care before the busy day begins.

๐Ÿ’ง Drink lots of water throughout the day! - Hydration is often forgotten in the midst of all of the excitement of school, seeing friends, and getting homework done. Make sure that you have a proper water bottle and a water source nearby.

๐Ÿฅ• Pack healthy snacks! - Choose treats for the day that help to clean your teeth instead of coating them with sugar. Carrots and apples can help remove tartar and freshen breath, and strawberries contain malic acid, which can remove stains on your teeth and naturally whiten them!

If you have any questions about oral health during the school year or dental care in general, give our office a call at (308) 236-9694! Sending lots of love to our students this school year!

Did you realize that tooth decay is the second most prevalent disease after the common cold?โ‰๏ธ

Although tooth decay is exceedingly common, it is preventable and can be improved with the correct care. One of the main ways to prevent cavities is to simply know your risk level. If you are at higher risk, you may need dental appointments more frequently to escape cavities. Receiving a thorough exam from a dentist is crucial in determining your risk level.

Several other important ways in which you can avoid or counter cavities are:
๐Ÿฆท Brush your teeth (Surprising, huh ๐Ÿ˜‰) Make sure that you are brushing the proper way with the right brush
๐Ÿšฐ Drink more water
๐Ÿญ Cut out sugar
๐Ÿ˜ฌ Floss those pearly whites
๐Ÿšฌ Quit smoking (and va**ng)

If you begin to change your habits and make choices that will benefit your oral health, more often than not cavities can be avoided!

If you are interested in learning more about how to prevent cavities or oral health in general, reach out to our office at (308) 236-9694.

Three-year-old Sloan was excited to come visit our office for her first check-up, and she was our BEST patient yet! ๐Ÿคฉ Sloan also happens to be the daughter of Dr. Garrett and his wife Ashley as well as the granddaughter of Drs. Mark and Kim Bush!

As you can see by her healthy smile, it's always a good thing to start young!

Bringing your kiddo to the dentist sooner rather than later has numerous benefits for both you and your child, such as:

๐Ÿค— Helping your child feel comfortable with the dentist
๐Ÿ‘‰ Catching bad habits like thumb sucking as early as possible
๐Ÿง Checking that healthy development is happening
๐Ÿค” Connecting diet and oral health
๐Ÿ˜ฌ Assessing first teeth
๐Ÿ”Ž Finding any decay or damage

The sooner you catch bad habits, decay, plaque buildup, and diet issues, the better your child's oral health will be.

If you have any questions about your child's teeth, let us know in the comments below!๐Ÿ‘‡ Or, give our office a call at (308) 236-9694.
