What happens after the unthinkable*?

Last week, Linda Kane shared the heartbreaking story of losing a dentist and friend to su***de. But the story didn’t end there.

🎙️ Season 4, Episode 5 of The Heart of Dentistry is OUT NOW.

In Part 2, “After the Unthinkable: How Do You Keep a Dental Practice Going?” Jamie Marboe and Linda talk about what happened next.

How do you support a grieving team while still caring for patients? How do you keep the practice operating? And when it’s time for someone new to step in, how do you honor the people, culture, and history that were already there?

Linda shares what it took to help the practice move forward through grief, transition, and eventually new ownership.

It’s a conversation about dental practice management, but even more importantly, it’s about people, compassion, leadership, and what it means to show up when everything changes.

What happens when someone you know, work with, and care about is carrying a struggle you never knew was there?

🎙️ Season 4, Episode 4 of The Heart of Dentistry is OUT NOW.

In “When You Never Saw It Coming: Su***de, Loss & Mental Health in Dentistry,” Jamie Marboe sits down with Linda Kane of Dental Office Rescue for a deeply personal conversation about losing a dentist and friend to su***de.

Together, they talk about the things we may not see, the questions we sometimes wish we had asked, grief after an unexpected loss, and why conversations about mental health matter in dentistry.

As Su***de Prevention Awareness Month comes to a close, this episode is an important reminder to look beyond “How are you?” and make space for real conversations.

Extraordinary practices aren't built by chance.

They're built by leaders who invest in their people.

When every team member understands their strengths and how they contribute to the bigger picture, communication improves, trust deepens, and collaboration becomes the standard, not the exception.

Strong teams don't just create better workplaces.

They create better patient experiences, stronger practice cultures, and lasting success.

If you're ready to build a team that thrives, let's start the conversation.

🎙️ Season 4 of The Heart of Dentistry is here.

I’m opening this season with a conversation that goes far beyond dentistry.

In Taking the Mask Off, Part Two: Look Up, Lean In, Follow Up, I’m continuing a very vulnerable conversation I started in Season 3. I’m not here to retell that story. I’m here to share what I know now because I stayed.

This episode is about noticing the person who looks okay but may not actually be okay.

It’s about being willing to ask the uncomfortable question. It’s about staying long enough to listen. And it’s about remembering that one conversation shouldn’t be where our care ends.

There are three simple things I want all of us to remember:

❤️ Look Up. Pay attention to the human being in front of you.
❤️ Lean In. Be willing to have the conversation, even when it feels uncomfortable.
❤️ Follow Up. Check in again. Don’t assume one conversation fixed everything.

Sometimes putting the heart back into dentistry has nothing to do with dentistry at all.

Sometimes, it simply means noticing the person standing right beside us.

I’m incredibly grateful to still be here, and I hope this conversation encourages us all to pay closer attention to the people around us.

Invest in Your Practice Before Summer Ends

As summer comes to a close, many practices begin planning for a busy fall season.

Before your schedule fills up, ask yourself:

Are our hygiene systems as consistent as they could be?
Are we documenting thoroughly and accurately?
Are we identifying every opportunity to improve patient care?
Are our clinical protocols aligned across the team?

A comprehensive Hygiene Chart Audit can answer those questions and provide a clear path forward.

Together we'll review 10 hygiene charts, identify what's working, uncover areas for improvement, and develop practical next steps your team can begin implementing right away.

Because stronger systems lead to:
✔ Better patient outcomes
✔ More confident teams
✔ Greater efficiency
✔ Sustainable practice growth

Summer Special: $500 (Regularly $1,500)

Let's make sure your practice heads into the next season stronger than ever.

Addiction is treatable. But left untreated, it can be deadly.

Dr. Brett Kessler shares a powerful truth about addiction and the importance of being willing to speak up when someone in our profession is struggling.

Too often, colleagues, team members, and even family members recognize that something is wrong but hesitate because they don't want to get that person “in trouble.” As Dr. Kessler explains, staying silent can have devastating consequences.

This conversation is a reminder that asking for help is possible, treatment is possible, and sometimes caring about someone means being brave enough to have the difficult conversation.
