What are Oral Ties?

Lip, tongue, and cheek ties occur when the small bands of tissue connecting these areas to the surrounding structures are too tight, restrictive, or attached in a way that limits normal movement.👅

Depending on the child, oral ties may contribute to different challenges depending on age:
👩‍🍼Infants: Shallow Latch, Reflux Symptoms, Milk Leaking, Coughing or Choking while Feeding, Frequent Hiccups, Restless/Short Sleeps, Sounding Congested etc.
🧍Ages 1+: Speech Delays/Troubles, Wetting the Bed, Deficiency in Jaw Development, Food Aversions, Difficulty Eating or Swallowing.

A release may be recommended when restricted tissue is impacting function. Releasing the restriction can help restore more functional movement BUT it’s important to remember that a release is only one part of the process. Proper evaluation and post-release support, such as myofunctional therapy when appropriate, can be important for helping the muscles learn and maintain new patterns.✨

Some signs parents may notice include:
👄 Poor Tongue Posture/Mouth Breathing
🦷 Malocclusion: The way the teeth bite together! Overbite, Underbite, Crossbite and Openbite)

Our “Tattle Tell Gel” is here to spill the tea on plaque!🦷

Disclosing Gel is a fun way for us to show kiddos (and parents!) exactly where plaque is hiding and which areas may need a little extra TLC when brushing at home. 🪥

The gel highlights plaque based on how long it has been sitting on the teeth:
💕 Pink: 24 Hours or Less
💜 Purple: 24 Hours or More
💙 Blue: Potential Cavity-Causing Bacteria

We apply the gel before a cleaning, rinse away the excess, and use the results to give personalized brushing tips. Then we brush it away, leaving your kiddo with a fresh, pearly-white smile! ✨
