Good morning everyone. I've waited to post details until I had a better understanding of what the future was going to hold but I feel comfortable letting everyone in on some unfortunate news.
Last week, Gizmo suffered a traumatic spinal injury. Before I continue, he is doing quite well. We aren't entirely sure when or how it happened but our vet believes he was injured jumping off a bed or possibly down stairs. What we do know is that between Monday and Wednesday of last week his hind legs started to weaken until Wednesday, when he rapidly lost all function of his back half. At that point we rushed him to BluePearl Pet Hospital for an MRI and emergency spinal surgery. The neurologist confirmed that he had herniated a couple of discs which severely damaged his spine leading to his paralysis. He immediately underwent a hemilaminectomy surgery and is now at home recovering. It will be a long, 6 week recovery and he will continue to re-learn to walk but ultimately he is likely to fully recover. Thank you to everyone that has come in and inquired and given us your love and support. He is already walking on his own and trying to run and even jump, even though that is not allowed 😂 but I am confident he will return in 2025 to bring smiles to all our patient's again.
