🚨 Community Alert - Rabies Exposure Concern Involving Baby Goats

Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA) is notifying residents about a possible rabies exposure involving baby goats associated with Farm Adventures, a mobile petting zoo based in Iredell County.
If you visited Farm Adventures in Harmony, NC, or attended an event where Farm Adventures was present between July 28 and August 27, 2026, and had direct contact with baby goats (including petting, holding, feeding, or handling them), please contact Cabarrus Health Alliance at 704-920-1399.
CHA Communicable Disease staff can help determine whether your contact may have been an exposure and discuss what you should do next. At this time, no exposure locations have been confirmed in Cabarrus County. We are coordinating with NCDHHS and other local health officials as information becomes available.

Information on rabies -
• Rabies is a serious disease that can spread when saliva from an infected animal enters the body through a bite, scratch, open wound, or the eyes, nose, or mouth.
• A person who has been exposed may not feel sick right away. Symptoms can take weeks or even months to develop. Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal.
• The good news is that rabies can be prevented after an exposure when treatment is started promptly.
• If you believe you may have had contact with one of the affected goats, please don't wait for symptoms. Call 704-920-1399 to speak with Cabarrus Health Alliance about your possible exposure.
