I was honored this month by Biodent Corporation. They selected me as their Ultratooth Certified Provider of the Month. Ultratooth is the only implant approved by the FDA for immediate restoration. That means a patient can have an unrestorable tooth extracted, an implant placed, and a ceramic crown cemented to place...all in the same day! Traditional implants often take 8-12 months before patients can have a final crown placed. Ultratooth is a one day process! My office is the only one in the midsouth certified to place and restore Ultratooth implants.

Just got home (late Saturday night) from a ten day educational western tour. First, a 50-minute presentation on ultra-conservative root canal preparation and obturation at the Fotona Super Symposium, which I hope went well. If you missed my annual video, "Smooth Obturator," it is now on Youtube. Next, Michele and I drove to Prescott, AZ, where I am collaborating with Dr. John Stropko on a chapter of the next edition of the three-volume "EndodonticS," edited by Dr. Arnaldo Castillucci and Dr. John West. My contribution will be on photobiomodulation, primarily with the Lightwalker laser, within a chapter on microapical surgery. This series was supposed to have been published in January of this year, but we keep updating the information, hoping it will be published soon. After that, a short trip to the Horizon Dental Institute in Scottsdale, AZ for a lecture on photobiomodulation to a group of endodontists taking a surgical course. I appreciate all of these places, especially the Fotona Symposium, for allowing me to share my passion with others. I may not be the world's greatest speaker, but I certainly do enjoy rambling on about all the wonderful things the Lightwalker will do. Here is a great article on laser root canal treatment from deardoctor.com, although one statement under "Pros and Cons" is dead wrong. The author states that laser light travels in a straight line but root canals are rarely straight. On the surface that is true, but with the PIPS process and the Fotona Lightwalker laser, the pulsing laser light initiates a "scrubbing" action within the disinfecting liquids in the canal. These "scrubbing bubbles" travel around curves and through tiny places where no other materials or techniques are able to go. The result is the cleanest, most bacteria free root canal possible. Aside from that one egregious error, the article is very good!

I don't know if there are any Star Wars fans out there, but thought you might be interested in my latest office video, soon to be released on my office website, jsabernathydental.com. Thanks to my son, John, for producing the video and thanks to Han Solo, Princess Leia, and the Wookie for being fans of laser endodontic treatment!
