A gap in the front is the one people notice. The one in the back is the one that quietly causes problems.

When a tooth is missing, the teeth around it start to drift and the bone underneath begins to shrink. A single implant replaces the root as well as the tooth, which keeps the neighbors where they belong and keeps the bone working.

The alternative, a bridge, means reshaping two healthy teeth to hold it. That is the tradeoff worth understanding before you decide.

Save this post. It is the comparison worth having in front of you when someone tells you a bridge is the only option.

One chipped front tooth, repaired the same day.

A chipped, discolored central and edges that never lined up. Four 3D printed veneers later, the edges match and the color is hers, not a Hollywood white.

We design them here and print them in our own lab on Coles Street, so you are not waiting two weeks on an outside lab to see your own teeth. 3D printed veneers typically last 5 to 7 years. Porcelain runs 10 to 15. At your consult we tell you which one your case actually needs, and we will show you both.

Shade matching is the thing that quietly ruins restorations.

A tooth that looks perfect under a lab bench lamp can look grey or flat in daylight next to the rest of your face. When the lab is a thousand miles away, the only way to catch it is to send the whole thing back.

Ours is in this building. The person making your teeth can walk into the operatory, look at you in real light, and adjust it before it ever gets cemented.

Follow the page for more from inside the lab. We would rather show the work than only the finished photos.

The story of how Dr. Nick ended up in dentistry starts with his own cleaning.

He was a freshman in college, home for a checkup with the dentist he grew up seeing, who happened to be president of the New Jersey Dental Association. The question came up: what do you want to be? Dr. Nick did not know. So he was invited to shadow, and that was that.

Baseball had given him the hand-eye coordination. He wanted the science, and he wanted to run his own place. Dentistry used all three, with the bonus of helping upwards of thirty people in a single day.

That practice is now here in Jersey City, and we are taking new patients.

There is a second set of eyes on every X-ray we take.

Pearl AI runs alongside our own read. It color codes existing fillings and decay, measures bone levels around each tooth, and surfaces details that are easy to miss at the edge of a film.

It does not make the diagnosis. Dr. Nick does. It just means your records get looked at twice before anyone talks to you about treatment.

Curious what your X-rays actually show? Call (551) 525-8284.

A few things that never come up during a cleaning.

Dr. Nick is Jersey born and raised, a lifelong Yankees fan, and inexplicably a Packers fan. He played baseball all the way through college, likes comic books with a strong Batman lean, and shares a home with his wife and two very opinionated cats.

Tag the Yankees fan in your life who still has not found a dentist.

If there is something on your calendar this year that will be photographed, work backwards from it.

Cosmetic cases are not same week projects. There is an exam, a design, a preview you approve, then the work itself. Give it room and the whole thing is relaxed. Leave it to the last month and the options narrow.

Weddings, headshots, big birthdays, a reunion you have been quietly dreading. Same advice for all of them.

What is the big moment on your calendar this year? Tell us in the comments and we will tell you honestly how far ahead you would need to start.

Remember the tray full of cold, thick material your dentist pressed onto your teeth and told you to hold still for?

These days it is a small wand. A few minutes of scanning and your teeth appear on the screen right in front of you. No mess, no gagging, and a more accurate starting point for whatever comes next.

If it has been a while since your last visit, you might be surprised how much has changed. Give us a call at (551) 525-8284.

A lot of people arrive here having already been told no.

Not enough bone. Too complicated. Come back when you have lost the rest of them.

Sometimes that is genuinely the answer. Often it is a limitation of the office that said it. Full arch implant work depends on planning, scanning and surgical experience, and those are not the same everywhere.

If you have been turned away before, bring the records and let Dr. Nick take a look. A second opinion costs you an afternoon.

If another office told you no, send us a message. Bring what they told you and we will give you a second read. That costs you nothing.

What is that hard buildup your hygienist scrapes off every visit?

It is called calculus. Once plaque hardens into calculus, you cannot remove it at home. It has to come off at the office, and if it stays, it starts pulling your gum line down around your teeth.

Dr. Nick breaks down exactly what it is and why your cleaning schedule matters. Save this to share with someone who keeps skipping their appointment.
