Study: Mouthwash kills coronavirus in 30 seconds.

Experts say it will not keep you from getting the virus, however
the study has found mouthwash could be effective in killing the coronavirus. The findings should not be seen as a protection against getting the disease or as a replacement for other precautions, experts say.
Scientists at Cardiff University in Wales said their study (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.11.13.381079v1.full.pdf) shows “promising signs” that over-the-counter mouthwash could become an important part of people’s routines.
“This study adds to the emerging literature that several commonly-available mouthwashes designed to fight gum disease can also inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (and other related coronaviruses) when tested in the laboratory under conditions that are designed to mimic the oral/nasal cavity in a test tube,” Richard Stanton, lead author on the study, told the BBC.
Having optimised a sensitive protocol for the detection of virucidal activity, they tested the ability of a
wide range of commercially available mouthwash formulations to reduce virus infectivity, after a 30-second treatment.
Their data, using an assay that enabled them to detect up to 5-log10 reduction in SARS-CoV2 activity,
further support the accumulating evidence for high virucidal activity by widely-available mouthwashes
in vitro, against SARS-CoV2 and the related HCoV-229E coronavirus strain [3-5].
Here, three products which contained either (i) 0.07-0.1 % CPC (Dentyl Dual Action,Dentyl Fresh Protect) or (ii) 23 % ethanol
with LAE (Listerine Advanced) provided the greatest level of inactivation, surpassing the level required
for EN14476.

A simple and efficient method against Covid19

06/26/2020

Welcome Back Letter

Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your health and safety.
As a result of the recent COVID-19 developments, we have made the decision to re-open the office on Monday July 6, 2020.
Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.
Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued.
You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:
• Our office will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office.
• We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the office for you to use as needed.
• You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
• Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’ are offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
• We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice. To make an appointment, please call our office at (215) 663-1431 or visit our website at www.lovindental.com.
We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming back our patients, neighbors and friends.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lovin and team

The health and safety of our staff, our patients as well as our surrounding communities is our utmost priority.
As a result of the recent COVID-19 developments, we have made the decision to temporarily close the office until further notice.

We will continue to evaluate the constantly changing environment in conjunction with following our local government recommendations as well as follow CDC and World Health Organization guidelines. We will provide updates to re-opening the office as necessary.
If you have a dental emergency, you may contact Dr Lovin on his cell at 267-847-1739.

We know these are very difficult times but we will get through this together. Be calm. Be Kind. Be safe.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PATIENTS
Starting on Monday, March 9, and continuing until further notice, we are changing our office admission procedure because of the coronavirus disease outbreak. Your appointment may be affected. Please read all this information carefully.
If you currently feel sick, please reschedule your dental appointment and call your physician. This is especially true if you have a fever, cough, sneezing, or shortness of breath. The same thing applies if you have had any of these symptoms in the last 48 hours.
Please also reschedule your appointment if you have traveled outside the United States in the last two weeks to an area affected by the coronavirus disease. This includes China, Hong Kong, Iran, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.
To reschedule an appointment or if you have questions, please call our office at 215 663 1431.
If you require urgent care, please do not come in without first calling our office at 215 663 1431
What is coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some causing respiratory illness in people and others circulating among animals. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can evolve and infect people and then spread between people. Previous coronavirus outbreaks have included Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). COVID-19 is the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.
Although we have a lot to learn about this virus, it appears to spread like other respiratory viruses — by people with the infection coughing and sneezing. These droplets are inhaled by other people or moved to the eyes, nose or mouth by contaminated hands.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
Symptoms of COVID-19 are flu-like and include fever, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath. Most people develop only mild symptoms. But some people, usually those with other medical complications, may develop more severe symptoms, including pneumonia.
I have a scheduled appointment. What should I do?
If you currently feel sick, please reschedule your dental appointment and call your physician. This is especially true if you have a fever, cough, sneezing, or shortness of breath. The same thing applies if you have had any of these symptoms in the last 48 hours.
Please also reschedule your appointment if, in the past two weeks, you have either been in close contact with someone who is infected with COVID-19 or have returned to the United States from an area affected by the coronavirus disease. Right now this list includes China, Iran, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. However, the list of countries continues to change, so it’s a good idea to check this Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for updates on the affected countries.
To reschedule an appointment or if you have any questions, please call our office.
I have been calling the office and cannot reach anyone. What should I do?
If you have an appointment and feel sick, do not come in. Please wait until you hear back from us. We are trying to respond to our patients’ calls as quickly as possible, but under the current circumstances, our response may be delayed.
What do I do if I have COVID-19 symptoms?
If you do feel ill, don’t panic. Most people who get the novel coronavirus disease have only minor symptoms and do not need medical care. However, you should contact your doctor to inform them of your symptoms and get advice.
If you have a mild case, your doctor may advise you to treat your symptoms at home. Staying home also helps prevent you from exposing other people to the disease.
For those who have a more serious case, call before you head to the urgent care or emergency room. That will help the medical team to prepare for your arrival, so you can receive the fastest and best possible care. It will also help them to protect other people from your infection.
Should I be tested for COVID-19?
Testing is typically conducted by taking a swab at a health care provider’s office. Call ahead before visiting your health care provider.
According to, there are currently no restrictions on who can be tested for COVID-19, and commercial testing is becoming more available. Health care providers may test any patient in whom they suspect COVID-19. While testing is becoming more available, there are limitations in health care providers’ capacity to obtain samples and process lab results rapidly.
While there are no restrictions who can get tested, not everybody who feels ill needs to be tested, particularly if you have mild illness. If you are sick with fever, cough, or shortness of breath, and are in a high-risk group, call your health care provider to discuss whether you should be tested for COVID-19.
What should I do to keep myself and those close to me safe?
The most important steps to take are the same as for every cold and flu season: Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and hot water. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if you cannot wash. Stay home if you are feeling ill. If you experience symptoms, call your doctor’s office. They will help you determine if you need to be seen and provide you with instructions for seeking medical care.
CDC is recommending that people at higher risk of severe illness should stay home and away from large groups of people as much as possible, including public places with lots of people and large gatherings where there will be close contact with others. People at higher risk include:
• People age 60 and older
• People with underlying health conditions including heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes
• People who have weakened immune systems
• People who are pregnant
