Teeth moving after Invisalign even with retainer!
Teeth can still move after Invisalign even if you wear your retainer consistently. Some minor shifting is normal because teeth naturally settle over time, especially in the first year after treatment. Retainers help maintain results, but they can lose effectiveness as they wear out.
Common reasons include:
Not wearing the retainer enough hours
A retainer that’s warped, cracked, or stretched out
Teeth grinding or clenching at night
Natural bite and jaw changes over time
Missing retainer wear for even short periods
You should see your orthodontist if:
Your retainer feels noticeably tighter
It no longer fits fully
Crowding or gaps are coming back
Your bite feels different
You notice visible tooth movement
Catching it early usually makes it easier to fix — sometimes with a new retainer or a short refinement instead of restarting treatment.
