As leaders in dentistry, we strive to maintain an enthusiastic environment that promotes patient. at OHSU Dental School.

Rex Miller was born the third of three children to the Miller Family of Hillsboro. Rex’s father, Douglas, was a chiropractor and his mother, Bonnie, a realtor and homemaker. Rex remembers his family life in those early days of his youth: hardworking days at Hillsboro schools, elementary, junior high, and high school; leisurely weekends at the family cabin on Devils Lake in Lincoln City where he le

arned to swim, water ski, and above all, fish. Rex, a fly-fishing expert, knows the hidden rivers of Montana and has often practiced his favorite past-time on the “River That Runs Through It” in Missoula. Rex not only attended Hillsboro public schools, but he went on for an additional eight years earning a B.S. in microbiology at OSU and a D.M.D. Rex continues to study by taking advanced courses in his profession. After graduation, his first position was with a firm known as “Gentle Dental” where he learned much about “gentle” dentistry. In 1993, he bought a dental practice here in Jacksonville and declared Jacksonville to be his new home. Rex is married to Karen Porschet and they have one child. When he is not busy with an active dental practice, Rex continues to enjoy family, hiking, backpacking, fly fishing, travel, good friends and good wine. His hobbies include fly tying, gardening, and attending to his home in Jacksonville. He is also very involved in civic and community activities: he is past president of the Southern Oregon Dental Society, a member of the Jacksonville Woodlands Association, and Rotary.

Went to Peru for fun and volunteering with Rotary. We spent 3 days in a Cusco clinic giving free dental care. This was the first time that my 14 year old son was my assistant all 3 days and he did a stellar job. So happy to be able to help out the Belen Clinic. The patients and staff were extremely appreciative.

Dear Patients,

We hope this finds you and your family in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines starting Monday, May 4th. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to each agencies’ recommendations.

You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:

• Our office will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office.
• We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the office for you to use as needed.
• You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
• Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
• We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice. To make an appointment, please call our office at (541)899-1924 or visit our website at www.rexmillerdmd.com.

Thank you for being our patient. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming back our patients, neighbors and friends.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rex Miller and Team

SUBJECT: COVID-19 Advisory and Emergency Dental Care

Dear Patients,

We hope this letter finds everyone in good health. We are sincerely empathetic of this unprecedented inconvenience to you and the entire community. At my office, protecting our team, patients and families is always our number one priority. We are following the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, The Organization for Safety Asepsis and Prevention, American Dental Association, Oregon Dental Association, The American Academy of Dentistry, and government to do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

As of Friday March 19th, we have postponed all NON-EMERGENCY oral health care until June 15, 2020 as mandated by the Governor of Oregon. We will resume sooner if possible or extend further depending on current events. In the meantime, our office hours will be 9:00am to 5pm Monday thru Friday for EMERGENCY patient care only. Patients with pain, infection, facial swelling, and trauma will be seen with compassion and safety.

In order to minimize person-to-person contact and adhere to social distancing as recommended by the CDC, we will manage patients’ symptoms with antibiotics and pain medication for non-urgent cases. Please note that we cannot prescribe medications to non-patients of record. Please call us directly if you would like help with a pharmacological regimen.

By remaining available to care for emergency needs, we can work as a team and ultimately will reduce the burden on medical emergency rooms and thus help to avoid over-crowded hospital environments. Additionally, we are working closely with the endodontists and oral surgeons in our community to best serve you.

To meet the upcoming demands for dental hygiene visits we will be hiring additional staff, extending our hours and working some Saturdays to create better access to care once the governor of Oregon lifts the existing mandate to cease all elective dental procedures.

Sincerely wishing everyone optimal health and safety,

Rex Miller, DMD and Team

Dear valued patient:

In an effort to support national efforts to fight the COVID- 19 pandemic, our practice is taking the following steps to help assure your health and well being and that of our community:

• We are following directives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a way to limit patient and staff exposure to this virus.
• Your health, and the health of our dedicated staff, matters to us, so going forward we will suspend all non-emergency care for three weeks.
• Patients will be seen only for urgent and emergency dental needs.

We will contact you soon to reschedule routine hygiene appointments. If you are already scheduled for an urgent issue, we will contact you the day before your appointment to discuss your health status, health screening protocols and confirm whether the appointment should be kept. Of course, please call us right away if you have a dental emergency or need immediate care.

The safety and well-being of our patients continues to be our primary concern. We will continue to monitor the status of COVID-19 nationally and within our community and keep you up-to-date regarding our plans to reopen for business as usual.

I urge you to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We can be reached by phone at 541-899-1924 or by email to [email protected] and will respond as soon as we can.

Thank you,
Dr. Rex Miller and Staff
