The truth is that bleeding when you floss isnt injury. Flossing can make your gums bleed at first, only when the cause is plaque (not hardened deposits *read further).

And plaque sitting between your teeth, an area your toothbrush never reaches causes inflammation. Your toothbrush can’t reach 40% of your tooth surface. and that’s where plaque loves to hide.

When you stop flossing, the plaque stays.
When you floss daily, the inflammation reduces and the bleeding usually stops within 7–14 days.

That being said, when there are heavy hard deposits* and severe inflammation, bleeding will continue and the gums won’t improve without treatment. In those cases, professional cleaning isn’t optional. ( )

So yes, flossing may cause bleeding…and yet it is exactly what your gums need.

Brushing twice is optional. Brushing and flossing at night is non-negotiable!

It sounds backwards, but it works.
Small habit. Big payoff.
