Endodontics of Orange County

Endodontics of Orange County Dr. Sam R. Gharib is a Board Certified Endodontist. He is an expert in Endodontic treatment, Endodontic retreatment and Endodontic surgery.

Dr. Gharib and his team are dedicated to provide patients with exceptional endodontic care. Endodontics is a specialty of Dentistry that deals with diseases of the dental pulp and its supporting structures. Endodontist Dr. Peter Cancellier is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. This certifies that he has demonstrated attainment of that level of diagnostic skill, clinical proficiency,

and professional judgment that ensures the highest quality of care for his patients. Dr. Cancellier is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Orange County Dental Society, an Honorary Member of the Warm Gutta Percha Study Club of Italy, an International Editor of the Giornale Italiano di Endodonzia, and Past President of the California State Association of Endodontists. We use the latest technology at our office, including the Kodak 9000 Cone Beam CT. For challenging cases, Dr. Cancellier uses this 3D imaging information to find canals, determine canal curvatures, and for choosing the appropriate treatment that serves the patient's health predictably. Because it has a small field, the radiation dose is minimized. In addition, with the use of Digital Radiography, images are created that allow us to see the teeth enlarged. It uses much less radiation than conventional films. Varying the shades increases the opportunity for accurate results. During a root canal, the Endodontist removes the inflammed or infected pulp, carefully cleans and shapes the canal system and then seals the prepared space. Most treatment is now performed in one or two appointments ranging from 30-90 minutes (depending on the number of canals). Once treatment is completed, you may be instructed to return to your dentist for permanent restorations. The restoration of the tooth is an important part of treatment because it seals the cleaned canals from the oral environment, protects the tooth and restores it to function. Most of the bad reputation associated with root canals is actually related to the pain experienced before getting to the endodontist's office. We pride ourselves in painless treatment. If you ask our patients that had root canal treatment whether it hurt, ninety-nine out of a hundred would say no. What about the other patient? When they inform us that they feel any discomfort, we stop the procedure and re-anesthetize them completely. New anesthetics have dramatically improved the potency of the numbness. We will take every measure to ensure that your procedure is in no way uncomfortable or painful.

A gentle mint sensation during brushing is normal, but if you feel a tingling burn, it could be a sign of sensitivity. Ingredients in toothpaste, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), can cause discomfort for some people. If the burning sensation happens consistently, consider switching to a gentler toothpaste. Did you know? When enamel is worn or gums have receded, cold air can easily reach the inner layers of your teeth, triggering sensitivity. Habits like breathing through your mouth and spending time in dry, heated spaces may also reduce saliva flow. Staying hydrated and using toothpaste designed for sensitivity can help keep your smile comfortable no matter the temperature. For more information, call +1 949-857-3636.

Timing your brushing routine is more important than you may realize. Acidic foods and drinks temporarily soften tooth enamel. But rinsing with water and allowing your saliva to neutralize acids can strengthen enamel and help protect your teeth. Ready for your next visit? Call +1 949-857-3636.

Ever wonder why sipping ice water can make your tooth zing? That sensation doesn’t come from the outside of the tooth itself, but from what’s happening deep inside. Tiny channels within the tooth, called dentin tubules, transmit changes that activate nerves, turning temperature shifts into sharp discomfort. It’s a microscopic process with a very noticeable reaction. If you're experiencing this kind of sensitivity, call +1 949-857-3636 to schedule a checkup.
