🦷🦷Impacted 2nd Molars 🦷🦷
We’re seeing more and more impacted second molars, and while they often fly under the radar, they can create significant problems. These teeth may damage the roots of the neighboring first molars and, much like impacted wisdom teeth, can create difficult hygiene challenges.
One treatment option is surgical uprighting.
In this case, we surgically uprighted both impacted second molars. As you can see, one case was relatively straightforward, while the other was far more severe (damage to the adjacent roots). We initially attempted orthodontic uprighting on the more difficult tooth without success. With little to lose, we proceeded with surgical uprighting—and the result was a success.
Every case is different, but preserving natural teeth whenever possible is always worth exploring.
