The bacteria that cause cavities are contagious. That surprises almost every new parent we meet.

They live in the mouth and pass between people through the most ordinary, loving moments, kissing your baby, sharing a spoon, finishing the food off their plate, cleaning a dropped pacifier in your own mouth. It happens in every affectionate household, among parents and siblings and grandparents alike.

None of this is cause for guilt, and it's certainly no reason to stop kissing your baby. It simply explains why we see a whole-family pattern in the chair so often. When one child has a mouthful of cavities, the siblings usually have something brewing too.

The answer is simple: keep all the affection, and take your own oral health seriously alongside it. A healthier mouth across the family means fewer of those bacteria to pass along in the first place.

Want a new-patient visit that looks at the whole family picture, not just one child?

A lot of parents carry a quiet worry before they even call a dentist.

"It's been too long since our last visit."

"My kid panics the second we walk in."

"I'm not sure how we'll cover it this month."

And underneath all of it, one fear: that someone will judge them for it.

So we want every parent to know one thing before they ever walk through our door.

Whatever is going on, a gap in visits, a scared little one, a tough insurance situation, you will not be judged here. You will be helped.

That's it. That's the promise. We're not here to make you feel behind or ashamed. We're here to meet your family exactly where you are and help you take the next step, at whatever pace works for you.

Every parent deserves a place they can bring their child without bracing for a lecture. We built this practice to be that place.

So if something has been holding you back from picking up the phone, let this be your sign that it's safe to. Families come to us from all over, including nearby Greenwood, to Kidz Dental in Indianapolis, IN.

You're weighing sedation dentistry for your child, you've got a referral in hand and three numbers to call, and then you hit the part nobody warned you about.

The hospital that takes your insurance has a year-long waiting list. The one with no wait costs more than your car. Your kid needs the work done now. And you're stuck between waiting and paying out of pocket.

We do sedation dentistry right inside our Indianapolis pediatric dental office. Same standard of safety, same level of training, no hospital wait, and your child gets everything done in one appointment, in a place they already know, with a team that already knows them.

Most of our patients never need sedation at all. But for the ones who do, we chose to make it available because a hospital OR shouldn't be a family's only option.

Our doors are open to new patients. If you've been staring at a year-long waitlist or a five-figure quote, there's another path. Call Kidz Dental at (317) 882-7694 and we'll talk through whether it's the right fit for your child.

Taking your child to the dentist comes with enough on your mind. The last thing any parent should have to do is fight through a language barrier on top of it.

Explaining a procedure, or understanding one, is hard enough in your first language. In a second, it can feel overwhelming. And when it's your child's care on the line, you deserve to understand every word.

That's why our team speaks multiple languages, including Spanish, Burmese, and Portuguese, along with English. So you can ask your questions, hear the answers, and make decisions for your child with total clarity, in the language you're most comfortable with.

Because feeling understood isn't a small thing. It's the difference between leaving a visit anxious and leaving it confident that you know exactly what's happening with your kiddo.

If your family would feel more at home being cared for in Spanish, Burmese, or Portuguese, we'd love to welcome you. Families come to us from all over, including nearby Greenwood, to Kidz Dental in Indianapolis, IN.

Your child's first visit with us might not include x-rays. Or any treatment at all. I know that sounds backward. It isn't.

For a child who walks in carrying real fear, a kid who's been pushed too hard before, a kid with sensory differences, or one who's simply very anxious, the first visit has one goal: to make sure there's a second visit your child will happily come back for.

If I look in your child's mouth and see nothing urgent, and they're too anxious for the x-ray that day, we'll skip it. Your child takes home a piece of x-ray film to practice biting on, and we try again next time. They arrive already half-familiar with the routine, and that second visit goes completely differently.

Yes, the pace is slower. It also works. I would far rather lose one appointment building trust than rush a child through something that makes the next ten visits harder.

If your child has been pushed past their limit before, message us. We'd love to start fresh.

If you're waiting until your child is three for their first dental visit, you're in good company, it's what most parents assume. But it's also the most common myth we hear, and here's the gentle correction.

The recommendation is much earlier: by your child's first birthday, or as soon as that first little tooth appears, whichever comes first.

We know that sounds early. A dentist for a one-year-old with barely any teeth? But here's the key, as our team member Khea explains: that first visit isn't about finding problems. It's about your child getting comfortable in the chair, meeting us, hearing the sounds, seeing that this is a safe and even fun place to be.

Waiting until age three doesn't just delay that. It skips the easiest window there is to build that comfort, before any fear has a chance to take root.

Start early, and the dentist becomes something your child simply grows up knowing, no dread required.

If your little one's first birthday is near, or that first tooth has arrived, we'd love to welcome you. Families come to us from all over, including nearby Franklin, to Kidz Dental in Indianapolis, IN.

A kid who'd been great in our chair for two years walked in one day and completely fell apart.

Total meltdown. He'd never had one. We've known this child long enough to tell the difference between a rough day and something bigger, and this was something bigger. A different kid was in the chair.

So I pulled his notes. We record behavior at every appointment, every time, because the patterns hide in the details. And there it was: this was the first time his other parent had brought him in. New person, new routine, new everything. His meltdown had nothing to do with us. It was about the change at home.

If we hadn't been tracking it, we'd have assumed he'd suddenly developed a fear of the dentist, started the wrong conversation with his parents, and missed what was really going on.

A lot of parents walk into our office carrying shame they never earned.

They've been told, directly or through a thousand small judgments, that they should have known better. About the bottle at bedtime. About the gummy vitamins. About waiting too long for that first visit. About the cavities that showed up despite everything they were doing right.

The line we keep coming back to is this: you don't know what you don't know.

It isn't your fault if no one ever taught you. It isn't your fault if the pediatrician never brought it up, or if the only dental guidance you got was three rushed sentences at a six-month visit and then nothing for years.

Our job is to give you the information you should have had all along, so we can move forward together. We're not here to correct you or make you feel small.

If you've been avoiding the dentist because you're tired of feeling judged, the door at our Indianapolis pediatric dental office is a different kind of door. Message us. We'll start right where you are.

There are few feelings worse than your child in real pain and a calendar that says the next opening is a week away. When it's a dental emergency, a week might as well be forever.

So here's an answer every parent should have on hand. Ruth answered one of the questions we hear most: can you get a same-day appointment for a dental emergency?

Her answer: yes.

We hold room in our schedule every single day, specifically for same-day care. Not because it's easy to do, but because a child in pain shouldn't have to wait a week to be seen. That time is reserved for exactly these moments.

So if your little one wakes up hurting, or takes a tumble, or something just isn't right, you don't have to panic or start calling around. You call us. Families come to us from all over, including nearby Greenwood, because being seen today matters more than anything when your child hurts.

Save our number now, so it's already in your phone when you need it most. We're here for your family at Kidz Dental in Indianapolis, IN.
