Summer break is when kids' teeth take the biggest hit, and most parents don't realize it until fall.

Think about it β€” less routine, more snacking, more juice and popsicles, less supervision of brushing. Kids are at camp, at friends' houses, running around outside, and oral hygiene is the last thing on anyone's mind. Including theirs.

I see it every September. Families come in for back-to-school checkups and there's more buildup, more early decay, more issues than there were in spring. And the parents are surprised because nothing seemed different.

But... three months of less structure means three months of bacteria doing their thing with very little interruption.

The fix isn't complicated: keep the brushing routine going even when everything else gets relaxed. Pack a toothbrush for camp or sleepovers. Swap some of the juice for water β€” especially that fluoridated tap water that actually helps protect their enamel. And rinse with water after snacks when brushing isn't an option.

It won't be perfect. But some awareness goes a long way.

Schedule a back-to-school checkup before the year starts.

There's a whole layer of care that happens before your child ever sits in the chair. πŸ’š

Most parents never see it, and that's kind of the point.

Our front office team is quietly running a hundred small things in the background so your visit feels easy. The confirmation calls so nothing slips through the cracks. The schedule juggling so your time slot actually works for your family. The insurance verification that happens long before you walk in. The benefits double-checks. The "let me make sure their record is ready" moments at 7am before the office even opens. 🦷

It's the kind of work that gets called "casual" and "normal" because it's done so well you don't notice it. But it's the entire reason a dental visit can feel calm instead of chaotic.

When you walk in and we already know your child's name, their last visit, their preferences, and what their coverage looks like, that's not luck. That's a team who has been preparing for you all morning. ✨

Because for parents, especially parents of multiple kids, the dentist isn't just an appointment. It's another layer on top of everything else you're already managing. Our front office team works to take as much of that off your plate as possible, so when you walk through the door, you can just focus on your child.

That quiet, behind-the-scenes care is part of every visit, from preventive care and routine cleanings to restorations, sedation, and emergency and trauma visits. Families across Indianapolis, Greenwood, Franklin, Columbus, Beech Grove, Shelbyville, Seymour, and surrounding communities, this is the team waiting to take care of yours.

Parents, what's one thing about scheduling appointments that stresses you out the most? πŸ‘‡

If your child won't open their mouth at the dentist β€” if they scream, kick, run, or shut down completely β€” you're probably being told they're "not cooperative."

Wrong.

They're scared or overwhelmed or they had a bad experience somewhere else that taught them dental offices aren't safe.

That's exactly what pediatric dentists are trained for. It's not a problem for us. It's honestly just a regular day.

We have noise-canceling headphones, TVs above every chair, and nitrous oxide for anxiety. We also work with an anesthesiologist for IV sedation when it's needed. But more than any of that, we have patience. And a team that doesn't rush, doesn't force, and doesn't give up.

Sometimes we're the second or third office a family tries. And that's okay. What matters is what happens from this point forward.

If your child has been turned away or you've been told "we can't work with them," call (317) 882-7694. That's exactly who we're here for.

If your child needs treatment and we can safely do it today, we do it today. πŸ’š

That's it. That's the philosophy.

Because Dr. Perez knows what it actually takes for a parent to get a child into a dental chair. The schedule juggling. The time off work. The carpool reshuffle. The babysitter for the other kids. The deep breath in the parking lot. Asking a family to do all of that twice for a treatment that could have been finished in one visit? That doesn't sit right with us.

So we built the office around solving it. 🦷

Our 16-chair setup wasn't designed to look impressive. It was designed for parents. More chairs means more flexibility. More flexibility means when your child needs a filling, a restoration, or follow-up care, we can usually take care of it right then, in the same visit, before you've even left the building. ✨

No "come back next week." No second trip across town. No second day off work. Just real care, done well, the first time.

Same-day treatment also matters clinically. The longer a dental issue sits untreated, the more uncomfortable it can get for a child. Finishing care in one visit means less anxiety, less anticipation, and less time worrying about "the next appointment." For little ones, that's huge.

This is what it looks like when a practice respects your time as much as it respects your child's smile.

From preventive care and routine cleanings to restorations, sedation, and emergency and trauma visits, we shape every visit around your family. Indianapolis, Greenwood, Franklin, Columbus, Beech Grove, Shelbyville, Seymour, and surrounding communities, we'd love to take care of your kiddos. πŸ’š

Parents, what would one fewer dental trip on your calendar feel like? πŸ‘‡

Not every tongue tie needs to be cut. And that might not be what you want to hear right now.

There's a lot of information out there about tongue ties and lip ties, and I understand why parents get concerned. If your baby isn't latching, or your older child is having speech problems, and someone mentions a tongue tie, you want to fix it.

But the right approach is never just jumping straight to a procedure. It's a team effort. If it's a newborn who can't latch, a lactation consultant needs to be involved. If it's an older child with speech concerns, a speech therapist needs to evaluate first. A myofunctional therapist might be part of the picture too.

Sometimes the tie is absolutely the problem, and a procedure is the right call. But sometimes it's not. And the only way to know is to have the right people look at it β€” not just one person making the decision alone.

I'd rather take the extra step to evaluate properly than do a procedure your child didn't actually need.

If you're concerned about a tongue tie or lip tie, call (317) 882-7694 and let's figure out the right path together.

The sign on the door said "come into work dancing for cake." πŸŽ‚

Our team did NOT need to be asked twice. πŸ˜‚πŸ’š

What you just watched is a completely normal morning at Kidz Dental. One by one, our team came through that door dancing, laughing, fully committing to the bit (a few were clearly here for the cake, and honestly, valid). ✨

But here's why this matters more than just being a fun video.

Kids pick up on energy instantly. They can feel when the people around them are relaxed, warm, and genuinely happy to be there. So the same team hyping each other up for cake at 8am is the same team gently talking your toddler through their first cleaning, staying calm during an emergency, and making a scared kid giggle before they even realize the appointment started. 🦷

From preventive care and routine cleanings to restorations, sedation, and emergency and trauma visits, this is the team behind it all. Families across Indianapolis, Greenwood, Franklin, Columbus, Beech Grove, Shelbyville, Seymour, and surrounding communities, come meet the people who dance to work for your kids. πŸ’š

Parents, be honest, are you dancing in for cake or walking in calm and collected? πŸ‘‡πŸ€

Nobody tells you that breastfeeding your baby to sleep could be hurting their teeth.

Even knowing what I know as a pediatric dentist, I understand why it happens. You're exhausted. It's 2 a.m. Your baby is finally, FINALLY falling asleep at the breast or with a bottle, and the last thing on this planet you want to do is wake them up to clean their mouth.

But the natural sugars in breast milk and formula sit on those tiny teeth all night. Eight straight hours of bacteria having a party in your baby's mouth, creating acids that eat away at enamel that just barely came in.

That's why toddlers sometimes come in with cavities you never expected, because no one told you milk could do this. You didn't know.

The best routine is simple: Give the last feeding, then clean the baby's mouth. Even a quick wipe with a damp cloth after a feeding makes a difference.

Once your baby no longer needs nighttime feeds, don't put them to bed with a bottle or nurse them overnight. I know that's easier said than done.

Here’s something most parents don’t realize: a lot of the time, kids aren’t actually afraid of the dentist. πŸ’š

They’re picking up on someone else’s fear.

Dr. Cloux sees it often. A child walks in for their very first visit already nervous, and it’s not because anything has happened to them yet. It’s because they overheard a parent’s own dental anxiety. Or an older sibling came home with a scary story. Kids are emotional sponges. They feel what the people around them feel, long before they have words for it. 🧠✨

And that’s actually really good news. Because it means a child’s relationship with the dentist isn’t set in stone. It can start fresh. It can start calm. It can start with a team whose entire job is to make that first visit feel safe instead of scary.

At Kidz Dental in Indianapolis, we slow everything down for first-timers. We let kids explore. We explain things in kid language. We watch behavior cues and move at their pace, not ours. The goal isn’t just to get through the appointment. It’s to rewrite what β€œgoing to the dentist” means for them, from the very first chair. 🦷

A gentle tip from us: try to keep dental talk at home positive and neutral. Skip the scary stories. Let their first experience be their own. We’ll take care of the rest.

From preventive care and routine cleanings to restorations, sedation, and emergency and trauma visits, every appointment is built around your child. Families across Indianapolis, Greenwood, Franklin, Columbus, Beech Grove, Shelbyville, Seymour, and surrounding communities, we’d love to give your little one a calm, happy start. πŸ’š

At some point, your teenager is going to look around the waiting room in my Indianapolis pediatric dental office, clock that it's full of Legos and cartoon characters and feel a little weird about being here.

That's normal. And that's actually how we know it's almost time to transition them to an adult dentist.

We see kids from birth through 18, and somewhere around 14 or 15, some of them start feeling like they've outgrown us. They want an "adult" dentist. And that's a good thing β€” it means they're maturing in how they think about their own healthcare.

The transition usually happens naturally. Most teens already know their parents' dentist and just start going there. We don't push anyone out, and we definitely don't rush it.

But then there are the ones who say "Can I just keep coming here?" They know us, they trust us, the visits are easy β€” and I love that. If they're under 18, absolutely, stay.

For our special needs patients, there's no age limit at all. We keep them as long as they need us, because finding an adult dentist who can accommodate their needs isn't easy, and we're not going to leave them without care.

POV: you walk past your dental assistant and she's fully invested in a 4-year-old's movie pick πŸ‘€

Ma'am. You're at work. πŸ˜‚

But honestly? This is kind of the vibe at Kidz Dental. πŸ’š

The TVs above every chair aren't just a cute extra. They're a whole strategy. When a child is watching their favorite movie, their nervous system relaxes. Their attention shifts. The chair feels less like a chair and more like a comfy spot to watch Bluey while someone counts their teeth. 🦷

That's the whole point of pediatric dentistry. We're not just here to clean teeth. We're here to make the entire experience feel safe, fun, and dare we say… kind of enjoyable? The play hut in the lobby. The TVs. The team members who know every Disney plot line by heart now. (Send help. We've seen Frozen 47 times this month.) β„οΈπŸ˜…

When kids actually LIKE coming to the dentist, everything changes. They sit better. They trust faster. They grow up without the dental anxiety so many adults are still carrying.

At Kidz Dental in Indianapolis, every visit is built around making your child feel comfortable, whether it's a routine cleaning, preventive care, a restoration, sedation, or an emergency. Families from Indianapolis, Greenwood, Franklin, Columbus, Beech Grove, Shelbyville, Seymour, and surrounding communities, we'd love to meet your little movie critic next. ✨

A lot of parents in my Indianapolis pediatric dental office hear "orthodontics" and immediately think "braces." You're picturing a mouth full of metal, rubber bands, the whole thing.

But sometimes what your child needs first is early intervention β€” work that happens before braces are even on the table.

If your child has a crossbite, for example, we might need to use an expander to widen the upper arch while they're still growing. That's Phase 1. It creates the foundation so that when they're older and ready for Phase 2 β€” actual braces β€” the job is simpler, faster, and more effective.

Not every child needs Phase 1. It's completely case by case. Some kids are fine waiting until their permanent teeth are in. Others benefit from intervention early.

We work closely with orthodontic specialists to figure out what makes sense for your child specifically. It's not about age β€” it's about what's happening in their mouth right now and what's coming next.

Wondering if your child needs early intervention?

πŸ“ž Call (317) 882-7694 β€” we'll tell you exactly where they stand.
