Welcome to the PrairieStar team Shakara Pete!

Shakara Pete, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC has joined our team of providers in our Mental Health department! She provides comprehensive psychiatric care across the lifespan. Her services include initial psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions, medication management, ongoing monitoring of medication safety and effectiveness, management of side effects, and adjustments to treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes. Shakara also provides Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for individuals with substance use disorders, supporting patients through recovery with evidence-based care and compassionate treatment.

Last Thursday, Senator Marshall made a stop at PrairieStar Health Center on his tour to talk about the Rural Health Transformation Grant awarded to several hospitals and health centers across Kansas.

PrairieStar Health Center was one of the recipients of this grant. The health center was awarded just under 2 Million for the new dental building set to break ground this fall.

As access to dental care continues to be an issue, especially in rural Kansas, we are working to meet that need with a new dental building and expand our availability to serve new patients.

This grant will go towards the nine-million dollar building project, leaving just 1.3 million left. PrairieStar is working to raise that with the help of a Mabee Challenge Grant.

From Gymnastics to Sports Medicine Doctor: The Rural Provider Spotlight of Cecilia Hinton, D.O.

Dr. Hinton is a sports medicine provider at PrairieStar Health Center, where she goes above and beyond to provide care to patients throughout Reno County. Her impact on the community extends far beyond treating injuries. She ensures that all students have the opportunity to participate in school sports, even when they are unable to afford the required exams.
