One of the questions I ask before designing a smile is:

“What fits this person’s face?”

Beautiful smiles aren’t created by copying someone else’s veneers or using the same tooth shape for every patient.

When I plan cosmetic treatment, I evaluate facial proportions, face shape, smile line, lip support, age, personality, and tooth proportions. Concepts such as the golden proportion and width-to-length ratios help guide the design, but they are only part of the process. Digital planning allows us to customize every smile rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

The best cosmetic dentistry doesn’t look artificial. It looks as though those teeth have always belonged to you.

Every smile should be custom designed—not simply made white.

One of the biggest misconceptions in cosmetic dentistry is that there is a single “perfect” tooth shape. There isn’t.

When I design veneers or crowns, I don’t simply make teeth white and straight. I consider:

• Face shape
• Facial proportions
• Lip position
• Smile line
• Age
• Gender characteristics (when appropriate to the patient’s goals)
• Tooth width-to-length ratios
• Golden proportion and smile symmetry

A square face often complements a different tooth form than a tapered or oval face. Softer line angles can create one appearance, while stronger contours create another.

The goal isn’t to make every smile look the same.

The goal is to create a smile that looks like it belongs to you.

That’s the difference between placing teeth and designing a smile.
