Is running like a dental office?? Today sure felt like it!!

Let me know what you think in the comments!

This 2 minute clip at the culmination of the event pretty much summed up the 34 hours I spent climbing that mountain (good thing finished hours before me to get the video!).

1. It was a grind. That slow pace at the beginning of this video was me the entire time. I wanted to be as fast as some of the others, but that’s just not my style. Pretty much describes any success I’ve had in life. It’s never easy. It’s a grind to the end, but it’s worth it if you don’t quit.

2. Do you hear what the amazing is saying as I walk up? She truly is “the voice of the mountain” and I was honored to hear such great words of personal encouragement as I made the final ascent. really made me feel special and part of the community.

3. It’s emotional. I was fighting back tears as I finished (and for many days that followed). You can hear Colleen say it’s emotional as I was struggling to gain my composure.

4. It’s a release. The yell at the end. The high fives. The hug with the coaches. The Red Hat. The pain and struggle gives way to a sense of accomplishment.

Too many people to thank but wanted to acknowledge my family for putting up with me the past 20 weeks of training and to my fellow competitors and the wackos that came up with this ridiculous event ……

We can do hard things…..and we’re better for it.

After years in pediatric dentistry, one thing becomes clear, oral health doesn’t exist in isolation. When a child isn’t sleeping well, it shows up everywhere:

• Mouth breathing
• Grinding
• Irritability in the chair
• Higher caries risk
• Slower development

If we only focus on teeth, we miss the bigger picture, and as dentists, we’re often the first to notice signs of airway issues or poor sleep patterns. That means we have a responsibility to look beyond the obvious and guide families when something doesn’t feel right.

Better sleep supports better growth, behavior, and long-term health.

💡 LOVE this brand right here.

Not every child needs the same level of fluoride protection, but for kids with higher caries risk, early enamel breakdown, or challenges with consistent home care, a standard toothpaste sometimes isn’t enough.

In these cases, I may recommend a prescription-strength option like Just Right 5000. It’s a targeted step up in fluoride concentration that can help strengthen enamel, slow lesion progression, and better protect vulnerable teeth.

It’s not for everyone, it’s for the kids who need a little extra support to stay ahead of decay. 🦷

When used appropriately and under dental guidance, small adjustments like this can make a big difference at the next recall. ✅

Most bad reviews aren’t about clinical outcomes, they’re about broken expectations. The gaps usually happen here:

• Handoffs: what the doctor says doesn’t match what the front desk explains

• Expectations: patients don’t know what will happen next or what it will cost

• Communication: too vague, too rushed, or inconsistent between team members

From the patient’s perspective, it feels disorganized. Even if the dentistry was excellent. That’s the experience gap.

Fixing it doesn’t require better marketing, requires alignment.
Clear messaging, consistent handoffs, and predictable communication turn confusion into trust, and trust into better reviews. ✅

Do you know when to recommend aligners vs braces?

It’s not about preference, it’s about case selection 📌

Aligners work best when:
• Mild to moderate crowding or spacing
• Compliant patients who will actually wear them
• Esthetic concerns are a priority
• You need controlled, predictable movements

Braces are the better option when:
• Moderate to severe malocclusion
• Rotations, vertical issues, or complex movements
• Younger patients with low compliance
• You need full control without relying on the patient

The mistake I see often? Choosing based on convenience or demand, not biomechanics ❌

The right recommendation isn’t what’s more popular. Always go with what will give the most predictable outcome. ✅

High-performing teams don’t rely on motivation. They rely on repeatable behaviors and clear systems. Here’s what that looks like in practice:

1️⃣ They start aligned
Short, focused morning huddles with clear priorities for the day.

2️⃣ They communicate in real time
No bottlenecks, no guessing: constant, clear updates throughout the day.

3️⃣ They follow the same protocols every time
Consistency reduces mistakes and speeds everything up.

4️⃣ They anticipate instead of react
Assistants and front desk stay one step ahead, not catching up.

5️⃣ They close every patient interaction properly
Clear handoffs, expectations set, no confusion at checkout.

6️⃣ They reinforce standards daily
Not just during training; expectations are lived, not posted.

7️⃣ They solve problems fast
No dragging issues for weeks. Fix, adjust, move on.

Forget talent. High performance i’s about what your team does every single day.

Being busy doesn’t mean you’re growing.
I’ve seen practices with full schedules, long days, and constant movement… yet no real progress in revenue, team performance, or patient experience.

That’s because activity isn’t the same as growth ❌

Growth comes from:
• Clear systems, not constant hustle
• Efficient workflows, not overbooking
• Strong case acceptance, not just more patients
• A team that executes consistently, not just stays busy

If your practice feels overwhelming but nothing is improving, the problem isn’t volume, it’s structure. Fix the systems, and growth becomes predictable.
