UTSD Alumni Association

The University of Texas School of Dentistry Alumni Association proudly represents the 5800 graduates of the Dental Branch and operates as a nonprofit organization with its own officers, trustees and executive director. The Alumni Association is totally self-supporting through dues and donations with an annual budget that supports its mission and strategic plan. The four main goals of the Alumni As

sociation are to:

-Improve Services to Members and Future Members
-Increase Recognition of Members, Donors, Faculty, Staff and Students
-Develop Member Connections
-Endow Faculty Positions

Major functions include:
-Annual Round Up
-White Coat Ceremony
-Class Reunions
-Annual Starlit Evening
-Alumni Receptions & Annual Luncheon
-Economic Support of the Dental Branch Through Foundations
-Communications Through the Cowhorn
-Student and Faculty Award

The mission of the UTSD Alumni Association is to be an influential organization that unites and supports alumni and future alumni, while promoting pride and value within the UTSD community.

We take great pride in the seven UTSD alumni who have been nominated for the 2026 Texas Academy Awards.

Joseph Castellano, DDS (Laredo District Dental Society), Carlos Cruz, DDS, OMS (Rio Grande Valle District Dental Society), Jeff Geno, DDS, MAGD (At-large nominee), Alex Gonzalez, DDS, MAGD (El Paso AGD), M. Leif Stromberg, DDS, MAGD (Dallas AGD) and Karen Walters, DDS, FAGD, MBA (Houston AGD) are in contention for the prestigious Texas Dentist of the Year award, while Blake Hutzler (Dallas AGD) is nominated for the Texas New Dentist of the Year award.

The presentation of the Texas Dentist of the Year and the Texas New Dentist of the Year will take place in Austin, Texas, on Friday, September 18, 2026.
