Straighter teeth are a great goal, and how you get there matters. This week the FDA reminded consumers that clear aligners sold online without a dentist’s or orthodontist’s supervision are not FDA-authorized, and some people have reported bite changes, jaw discomfort or teeth moving the wrong way. When front teeth look chipped or a translucent at the edges, that can be a sign of trauma….meaning the bite forces aren’t balanced and the teeth are taking more stress than they should. Over time, that stress can chip enamel or make the edges look see through. The good news? When the bite is properly balanced and natural teeth are carefully restored with strong materials like porcelain, we don’t just improve how the smile looks, we also protect the teeth from further damage.
