When a tooth is extracted and it is not replaced in a timely manner, the opposing tooth will continue to grow outward, either down or up, until it is stopped by resistance. This over-eruption is called supra-eruption.
Supraeruption may cause you to bite your cheeks and gums.Overeruption is typically treated by directing the tooth back to the intended position using orthodontic techniques, or by cutting the interfering portion of the tooth and installing a crown. If the roots are too far exposed, it may need to be removed

Impacted wisdom teeth can result in pain, damage to other teeth and other dental problems. In some cases, impacted wisdom teeth may cause no apparent or immediate problems. But because they're hard to clean, they may be more vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease than other teeth are which is why Dentist would recommend that you remove them even though they are not causing pain at the moment.
