You brush twice a day. You floss every night. And the dentist still found a cavity. 💙

If that’s you, please hear this: it doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. Brushing and flossing are a big part of the picture, but they’re not the whole thing. Swipe through to see a few everyday habits (and one thing nobody controls) that can work against even the most consistent routine.

If anything here sounds familiar, bring it up at your next visit and we’ll figure it out together.

Getting a little one to brush without a standoff? It usually comes down to making it feel less like a chore.

Brush together. Kids copy what they see, so let them watch you do it first.
Let them choose. Their own toothbrush, their own flavor of toothpaste. A small say goes a long way.
Keep it the same every day. Same time, same spot, morning and night. Once it's just part of the routine, the pushback fades.

Two minutes, twice a day, and a lot of patience. You're doing great.

Teeth checked. Smile sparkling. Now for the important part.

Every kid heads home with something from the treasure chest, and they earn it every time. Sitting in the chair, opening wide, and letting us take a look is a big deal when you're little.

Ending on something fun means they walk out proud of themselves, and that feeling is what they remember the next time they come in.

Baby teeth may be temporary, but the job they do is a big one.

They help your child chew, speak clearly, and hold space for the grown-up teeth coming in behind them. Taking care of them now makes everything down the road a little easier.

That first tooth is such a fun milestone, and it's also your cue to start brushing! 🪥

You can actually start even earlier. Gently wiping your baby's gums with a soft, damp washcloth after feedings gets them used to having their mouth cleaned. Then when that first tooth shows up, brushing already feels normal.

Swipe through for the basics, and save this for when you need it 💙

This one surprises a lot of parents! 💧

Rinsing feels like the natural last step, but skipping it gives that toothpaste a little more time to do its job. It makes the biggest difference at bedtime, since saliva slows down while kids sleep and their teeth need all the protection they can get overnight.

Try it tonight and see if it sticks!

Quick question: when did your little one last get a new toothbrush?

If you're not sure, you're not alone. A good rule of thumb is every three to four months. There are also a few moments when it's a good idea to replace it sooner, and they're easy to forget in the middle of a busy week.

Let your kiddo pick out the new one. A favorite color or character can make brushing time a lot more fun.
