Most people don't think about oral cancer during a routine dental visit, but early detection is one of the most powerful tools we have against it.

Here's what you should know:

🦷 Oral cancer affects the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, hard and soft palate, sinuses, and throat.
🦷 More than 54,000 Americans are diagnosed each year, and the survival rate improves dramatically when it's caught early
🦷 It can develop with no visible symptoms at first, which is why professional screenings matter

Signs to watch for:
- A sore or ulcer that doesn't heal within two weeks
- Red or white patches inside the mouth
- Unexplained numbness, pain, or tenderness in the mouth or lips
- Difficulty chewing, swallowing, or moving the jaw
- A persistent sore throat or feeling that something is caught in your throat

Risk factors include to***co use, heavy alcohol consumption, prolonged sun exposure to the lips, and certain strains of HPV, but oral cancer can affect anyone, including those with no known risk factors.
