For years, Harris Health has proudly hosted its annual Pink Out celebration, bringing together breast cancer survivor patients, families, caregivers and staff to honor the strength, courage and resilience of those who have faced or still seeking treatment for breast cancer.

Held in October during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Pink Out celebrates the stories of triumph and perseverance of patients treated across Harris Health. Survivors gather to share experiences, encourage one another and recognize the care teams who supported them along the way. The event also highlights the importance of early detection and access to life-saving breast cancer screening and treatment services.

More than a celebration, Pink Out is a testament to hope, healing and community. Harris Health is honored to stand alongside our survivors and their loved ones as we continue our commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality cancer care for the communities we serve.

A new chapter in cancer care is coming to Northeast Houston. Harris Health is expanding access to advanced cancer care with a new freestanding comprehensive cancer center planned for the John M. O'Quinn Hospital campus that is under construction in Northeast Houston. The Harris Health Board of Trustees approved moving forward with the design and construction of a four-story, 125,000-square-foot facility on the campus. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4hMqgft

Sadio Doucoure felt a lump in her breast but thought it was normal. When she finally was brave enough to go to the doctor, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.

Today, she’s in Survivorship Clinic, but admits she’s scared the cancer may come back.

“I want to tell other women who are just starting their breast cancer journey – they will be OK,” she says. “It’s hard, but they need to fight for themselves. The care I received at Smith Clinic was amazing. Staff were so nice and helped support me throughout my treatment.”
