Does your mouth ever feel dry, sticky, or like you need water constantly?

It might be more than just thirst — it could be dry mouth, and it’s something we take seriously at Shisler & Taylor Pediatric Dentistry.

Saliva plays a big role in protecting your smile. It helps wash away food particles, neutralize acids, and fight cavity-causing bacteria. When your mouth remains dry for extended periods, your risk of cavities, bad breath, gum disease, and enamel damage can increase. Save this post to remember these tips, and ask our team for more info if you have concerns about dry mouth.

Back-to-school routines can change everything from meals to bedtime, and teeth feel that shift too.

A few simple habits can help:

💧 Choose plain water most often
✨ Need flavor? Sugar-free water enhancers can be a helpful option
🥤 Keep acidic sparkling waters in moderation
🍎 Try to avoid all-day grazing
🪥 Protect the morning brushing routine

No perfect lunchbox or perfect morning required.

Small habits, repeated consistently, are what matter most. 🤍

Save this for the school-year reset.

Happy Tooth Fairy Day! Did you know the average child loses 20 baby teeth between ages 5–7? Those tiny teeth play a big role in helping kids chew, speak clearly, and guide adult teeth into place. So when that tooth goes under the pillow tonight, celebrate it!

Pacifiers can be incredibly helpful for comfort and soothing, especially in the early years. 🤍

But prolonged use can affect more than just the position of the teeth.

A pacifier can keep the tongue resting low, hold the lips apart, and influence the way the mouth rests even when the pacifier is not in use.

That does not mean parents need to panic or feel guilty. It just means timing matters, and it is worth paying attention to how often the pacifier is being used as your child gets older.

If you are wondering whether your child’s pacifier habit may be affecting their bite or mouth posture, bring it up at their next visit. We are always happy to take a look. 🦷
