On March 20, Dr. Ly and the Copperfield Smiles team — including our wonderful hygienist Alexis — visited Kids 'R' Kids West Houston for a fun and interactive dental hygiene presentation! 🦷🪥

We chatted with the little ones about brushing, flossing, and keeping their smiles healthy — and let’s just say, they had plenty of thoughtful questions (and even more contagious smiles).

Alexis did an incredible job demonstrating proper brushing techniques and making dental care fun, friendly, and memorable. 💙

It was an absolute joy seeing how curious and engaged these future smile stars were.
Big thanks to the Kids 'R' Kids staff for having us — we can’t wait to come back!

Everyone has experienced a case of morning breath, but bad breath can become a persistent problem and may be a sign of more serious oral health problems. While there are a few causes of bad breath, a general way to combat it is to have a solid oral hygiene routine complete with regular brushing (don’t forget your tongue), flossing, and using mouthwash. If you’d like to learn more about what’s behind bad breath and how to fix it, take a look at this article!

To people of all ages the idea of wearing braces can be embarrassing, but rest assured! You can still get a perfect smile without a mouthful of metal. Using aligners can fix your teeth in a subtler and quicker way than braces. When they’re on, they’re virtually undetectable since they’re clear, and they can shorten your orthodontic treatment by 6-12 months. At our office we offer both SureSmile and Invisalign, but each has their own benefits. To learn more about them and determine which one is right for you, schedule a consultation with us!

During your last trip to the dentist, you might remember the hygienist calling out a list of numbers such as, “Two, Four, Two, Three, Two” as they worked on your teeth. This is called periodontal probing. Using a blunt tool marked with measurements for every millimeter, the hygienist can determine how healthy your gums are. Healthy gums have a periodontal pocket that’s anywhere between 1-3 mm in depth while gums being eaten away by bacteria have a gap that’s 4 mm or deeper due to inflammation. Having pockets this deep can be as a sign of periodontal disease and can only be treated by a professional. However, prevention is key! Come by our office to get your teeth checked out today, and catch any gum disease before it worsens.

So you’re worried about your habit of teeth grinding, and you’re looking into getting a night guard. Before you purchase an over-the-counter one, consider visiting your dentist for a custom option. While it may be more expensive, it’ll better protect you against teeth damage and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder. Remember, it’s always cheaper to protect your teeth rather than restore them once they’re damaged. Make an appointment with us to be fitted for a night guard today!

Summer is almost over, and it’s time to shift our focus from maintaining our beach bodies to maintaining our oral health for a smile that lasts beyond the season. Regular dental checkups are important because they:

Help catch gingivitis and cavities before they develop into more serious issues like gum disease and tooth damage.
Let you know if you need any treatment for oral health problems you may be facing.
Keep your smile looking its best!

If it’s been more than 6 months since you’ve last seen your dentist, schedule an appointment www.copperfieldsmilesdental.com and come by to see us!
