As I think About our Maple journey and as we plan for our 10th year (2027) and how we want to celebrate and rejoice, I cannot think about what it all takes/took to launch and maintain a ground up/start up dental practice.

1. A Desire (Dr. Bultema) to practice in a place where you grow old with your patients.
2. The Lord’s guiding on location and timing. (See our website for story).
3. Risk! And lots of Loans. Land, building and business start up costs.
4. Learn as you go…always learning, always pivoting.
5. Invested team…Our team throughout our 9 1/2 years have been so great to help start something from scratch and grow and improve and love on Patients. They took their experiences and made Maple what they wanted and hoped it would be.
6. People who trusted us when we had just opened in Horace. Dr. Bultema was an experienced dentist but not many in Horace knew us. Appreciate the stepping out and support of the community.
7. Prayers: Thank you to the many that pray for us as we serve locally and abroad.

Our journey has been much like these photos of Dr. B…It’s preparation, deep breath, exciting, frightening at times, thrill, trust, let go, and take the plunge. Thanks for being in this journey with us! We are forever grateful!

One of the things we love about a “Ground up, Start up” Dental office (opened 2017) is that there is a lot of “us” in Maple Family Dental. And we keep putting more of our experience in each room. Makes for good stories.

Dr. Bultema and some of his family were able to travel to Africa in 2025 and met a painter. The Painter ended up painting a special drawing for Dr. Bultema and shipped it to North Dakota. It has made its home in one of his operatories. It’s a leopard…and we got to see one but I don’t have as good of photos as I do the Cheetah! We got to see a Real Cheetah and her cub in the Serengeti.

God’s creation is Breathtaking…and the Artist talent was awe inspiring.
