Have you ever wondered what the basic instructions of dental implants looked like?

Well here’s the blueprint!

Overall the idea is very simple. Anchor in what most people would call a screw, through the patients gums and into their jaw bone.

Then, after crafting a “new tooth” that is tailor made for the patient, simply secure it to the anchor with a tiny screw driver!

Obviously the entire process is much more complicated and time consuming than this but we hope this helps those who are curious about implants, get a better idea of what to expect.

When a dentist is performing a lateral wall sinus graft, the most critical part of the procedure is how far we cut into a patients maxillary sinus!

Only a few millimeters of skin and bone separates a surgery like this from a routine operation and a full blow catastrophe.

Luckily for us, we can easily see the work we’ve done by actually seeing the sinus membrane moving under the jaw!

With each breath we can see the thin layer of skin that separates the air inside our bodies from the air outside inflating and deflating just like a balloon.

One small nick of the sinus membrane and a patient may experience air or fluid leaks, sinus pressure and risk of infections.

Luckily for our patient, we’ve done this many times before and are experts in our field!

In today’s episode of, “identify the implants” we are working with a patient who needed a bridge implant on their lower jaw.

In total this patient had 5 teeth that needed to be replaced and now that they are, our patient couldn’t be happier!

Now our patient can eat, drink and smile just like he used to!

This patient gave our office a call last year and told us that her permanent dentures felt loose.

She told us that she could physically move here dentures back and forth in her mouth and that they almost felt like falling out when eating.

After a quick examination we realized that not only were her dentures loose but they had completely detached from her gum line!

All it took was a slight wiggle and small pull to completely remove the dentures in her mouth.

How does something like this happen you might ask?

Many people think that just because they get dentures, they don’t have to take care of their teeth. This is FAR from true!

In fact, permanent dentures need just as much if not more care then your real teeth! Especially when you think about the cost associated with getting dentures in the first place.

After removing our patients dentures we were able to come up with a plan to get her a new set of permanent teeth.

After all was said and done our patient was able to go home with a beautiful new smile!

Now she can eat without feeling like her teeth are falling out and smile like she used to.
