We are a 100% digital dental office. This allows your chart to be at our finger tips with a click of a button. We also are able to pull digital x-rays on a screen to help you understand your dental need and how to fix your tooth. Our friendly and competent staff is dedicated to patient comfort and quality care. We provide the best and latest in dental technology and treatment options. We provide gentle, family-oriented dental care to the adults and children of this community. We utilize the best equipment sterilization techniques available to dentists. Meet-The-Staff Monday! Moving from front office to assistants, meet Shelly Boyd.

As an assistant, Shelly is who you see before you see the doctor. She will typically take your blood pressure, run some tests if you come in for an emergency, or explain what will happen during your appointment. Shelly grew up in Holton and graduated from Holton High School in 2013, joining our Holton Dental team in 2023. She married her husband, Josh, in 2016 and they have 3 kids together - Samuel, Hadleigh, and Malakai. You can usually find Shelly curled up with a good book, chasing around her children, or enjoying the peaceful views at the home her husband built for them.

We asked Shelly some rapid fire questions. These were her answers:

Did you know that most everything at the dental office is SAFE during pregnancy?

Oral health care, including having dental radiographs taken and being given local anesthesia, is safe at any point during pregnancy. The ADA and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) even agree that emergency treatments, such as extractions, root canals or restorations can be safely performed during pregnancy and that delaying treatment may result in more complex problems. During pregnancy, individuals may be at increased risk for oral conditions such as gingivitis and dental caries, and should be counseled by both their obstetrician and dentist on the importance of good oral hygiene throughout the pregnancy.

However, Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) has a risk of fetal harm if administered during pregnancy. This is why you might see our assistants switch if you decide you want nitrous during your appointment or why we may ask you to wait in the waiting room if you are pregnant and bring another child to an appointment.

Meet-Our-Staff Monday! Finishing up our front office this week is Jody King!

Jody is the first smiling face you see when you walk into our office and is the comforting voice you hear when calling in with an emergency. She was born and raised outside of Netawaka, KS. She graduated from Jackson Heights in 2007. She then attended Washburn University and completed their Physical Therapist Assistant Program (2009), followed by getting her Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration (2011). Jody and her husband Nick moved back to the Holton area in 2023. They have 3 children, Maverick, Thayer, and Rynnlee. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and friends, watching her kids participate in sporting events and vacationing in the mountains.

Meet-Our-Staff Monday!

Continuing our front office staff with Courtney Teter! Courtney joined Holton Dental in 2024. She has over 20 years of dental assisting experience but is enjoying her new role in the front office. Courtney is currently our insurance guru! She is constantly on the phone with your insurance companies ensuring the you receive your maximum benefits. Courtney moved to the area in 2022 and married her husband, Mike in 2024. She has three kids, three bonus kids and three fur babies. In her free time you can find her spending time with her family as well as running her kids to dance and sports.

So your hygienist and doctor have recommended a deep cleaning. What does that mean?

Let's start here - what is SRP? SRP stands for Scaling and Root Planing. SRP is a non-surgical procedure performed by our dental hygienists to treat chronic periodontitis (gum disease). It involves meticulously removing hardened plaque (tartar) above and below the gumline (scaling) and smoothing tooth roots (root planing) to help gums reattach, preventing bone loss and tooth loss.

These x-rays are showing some of what the hygienists and doctors see when they diagnose you with needing SRP and after your treatment.

Meet-Our-Staff-Monday! Starting off with our front office staff.

Meet Bridget Davis! Bridget has been with us for almost 3 years and has worn many hats! Currently, Bridget is who you see once you are finished with your appointment. She helps you understand your treatment plan and communicates with your insurance. Bridget earned her bachelor degrees in Finance and Economics from Fort Hays State University. She married her husband, Bill, and moved to the area in 1996. They have 2 kids and lots of pets! After being a stay at home mom, she worked as a school secretary for 17 years. During her free time she enjoys too many types of crafting, reading and spending time with friends and family.
