Straight teeth aren’t about vanity. They're about function and health.

At Total Health Dentistry, we care deeply about teeth alignment because it impacts way more than your smile. When teeth are properly aligned, they’re easier to keep clean, which means healthier gums and less inflammation in the body overall. Crowded or misaligned teeth? They tend to trap plaque, stress the jaw, and wear down faster than they should.

Alignment also plays a big role in how your bite works, how your jaw feels, and even how well you breathe at night. When everything lines up the way it’s supposed to, your mouth works with your body—not against it.

This isn’t about chasing “perfect.” It’s about setting you up for long-term oral health, comfort, and overall wellness. Straight teeth just happen to be a really important piece of that puzzle.

Insurance companies negotiate contracts based on internal cost control, NOT personalized health care.

You may notice that we do things a little differently when it comes to dental insurance. We’d love to explain why.

As a courtesy to you, we file all dental procedures with your insurance company and always advocate to help you receive the maximum benefits available under your plan.

However, we choose not to sign restrictive contracts with insurance companies that would dictate which services we can — or cannot — provide. Our priority is preserving the integrity of the doctor-patient relationship and recommending care based on what is best for you, not what a third-party payer decides for you.

Insurance companies negotiate contracts based on internal cost control, NOT personalized health care. Unfortunately, those agreements don’t always include the treatment strategies that best support your long-term oral and systemic health.

If you’d ever like specific examples or want to learn more about our philosophy, we’re happy to share. Transparency matters to us.

We have proudly remained independent of insurance contracts since Independence Day 2000, and we hope the difference in your care has been evident.

Carmen started shadowing us as a pre-Dental student at Michigan State University in 2022, which created an easy transition to joining the team in April of ‘24.

Today, we celebrate Carmen as she begins an exciting new chapter. While we are certainly sad to see her leave Total Health Dentistry, we could not be more proud or excited for her as she starts her journey at Roseman University of Health Sciences, College of Dental Medicine.

Carmen has been a valued part of our team, and her passion for learning, caring for others, and commitment to health-centered dentistry will serve her incredibly well in the years ahead.
