This patient was unhappy with a single monochromatic crown on her front central incisor that lacked the depth, translucency, and natural characteristics of the surrounding teeth.

We replaced it with a custom-shaded and stained Emax porcelain crown, carefully designed to recreate the subtle color variations and lifelike appearance of natural enamel.

The goal was to create a restoration that blends seamlessly with the surrounding teeth, so the crown looks like it has always belonged there.

Sometimes the best treatment is one that preserves options for the future.

This case involved composite bonding on the right lateral incisor and a resin Maryland bridge to replace the missing left lateral incisor.

Because the patient is not yet old enough for an implant, the Maryland bridge provides an interim solution while we wait for the appropriate time for implant treatment.

The goal was to create a natural-looking, balanced smile while keeping future treatment options open.

Controlling composite is all about understanding how the material moves.

Every time you touch composite, you add energy to it, and it can start going places you do not want it to go. For veneer cases, I like to build in two parts so I can control thickness, shape, and margins more predictably.

First, I place and shape the facial portion, leaving the distal, gingival, and mesial areas slightly open. After curing and evaluating the facial, I add a small rope of composite into the remaining area, then use a brush and modeling resin to blend everything together.

A small change in technique can make the process more controlled, more predictable, and more natural looking.

Some methods never lose their value.

This old-school knife sharpener comes through the neighborhood during the summer, and people bring out their knives to be sharpened by hand. No shortcuts, just technique, control, repetition, and knowing exactly how much to remove.

Dentistry is no different. Digital design, 3D printing, and modern materials have changed what is possible, but exceptional results still depend on old-school fundamentals: planning, preparation, hand skills, finishing, polishing, and judgment.

Sometimes the best dental cases are not purely old-school or purely new-school. They require both.

Final result from the full-mouth rehabilitation case.

This case was completed with a combination of porcelain veneers, crowns, implants, and implant crowns to restore function, improve aesthetics, and rebuild the patient’s smile.

Because the patient had extreme wear and loss of vertical dimension, she was also experiencing increased mid-facial lines and wrinkles. After treatment, she shared in an amazing review that restoring her teeth felt like a non-surgical facelift because of the visible decrease in facial wrinkles and lines.

The goal was not only to create a healthier, more confident smile, but also to restore the support, balance, and function that had been lost over time.

It is not something you master from one weekend course or one article. The artistry, technique, and predictability come from practice, mentorship, and constantly refining your approach.

Full-mouth cases start with a plan, and provisionals are a critical part of that process.

This 55-year-old patient presented with extreme wear, gross caries, and several non-salvageable teeth. The before photo shows where we started at 7 AM. The after photo shows the case provisionalized after eight hours of work.

These are not the final restorations. They are provisionals, designed and fabricated chairside in the office using Luxatemp and BisCover. Provisionals are always the first step in a complete functional and aesthetic evaluation before moving into the final restorations.
