🦷 How Is Periodontal Disease Diagnosed?

Healthy gums are an important part of a healthy smile! A periodontal evaluation helps us look beyond the surface to determine the health of your gums and the bone supporting your teeth.

During an evaluation, we may assess:
🔹 Gum pocket depths around each tooth
🔹 Bleeding, inflammation, and gum recession
🔹 Plaque and tartar buildup
🔹 Tooth mobility
🔹 Dental X-rays to evaluate bone levels
🔹 Other factors that may affect your periodontal health

These findings help determine whether your gums are healthy or if gingivitis or periodontitis is present and, when applicable, the stage and grade of periodontitis.

Early diagnosis can make a big difference. The sooner periodontal disease is identified, the sooner we can create a personalized plan to help protect your gums, teeth, and smile.
