❌ MYTH!

Gum disease can affect adults of any age.

While the risk of periodontal disease increases over time, younger adults can also develop it. Factors such as plaque buildup, smoking or va**ng, diabetes, genetics, hormonal changes, stress, and inconsistent oral hygiene can all increase the risk.

The early stages of gum disease often have little to no pain, making regular dental visits and periodontal evaluations so important.
Watch for these warning signs:
🩸 Bleeding gums
🔴 Red, swollen, or tender gums
😮 Persistent bad breath
🦷 Receding gums
🦷 Loose or shifting teeth

Healthy gums are important at every stage of life—not just as we get older.

Dr. Brito became a periodontist because she loves the precision of periodontal surgery and the opportunity to help patients save their natural teeth and implants. 🦷

Healthy gums shouldn't bleed. Bleeding is often one of the earliest signs of gum disease (periodontal disease), which is caused by bacteria and inflammation below the gumline.

The good news? Early intervention can make a big difference. Regular dental cleanings, proper home care, and periodontal evaluations can help protect your smile and your overall health.
