As a medical professional with a Masters of Public Health in Community Health Education, I wonder how as health educators we can reach people that really need to know that this epidemic is real. It will infect you even if you don't believe in it, and it can kill you. This Washington Post article really scares me. How are we as Public Health Educators missing the mark in educating the population of America, and what can we do better?

As a surge in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations ravage the Upper Midwest, health-care workers deal with severely ill patients who remain skeptical about the existence of the virus.

We are all stuck. The American Dental Association and other scientific organizations are trying to figure out how we can safely treat patients, both to keep you safe and also how the keep the staff safe. Because we use high speed instruments that create a lot of aerosols, we have to consider how the potentially infectious mist affects everyone in the office.Things are definitely going to be a lot different when we finally are allowed to get back to the office. This pandemic is causing a major change in the way we will treat patients in the future, and I don't even know what that will look like at this time. Hang in there and we will all figure this out and be back to take care of you when we can do it safely.

Coronavirus has made most dental work too dangerous, leaving one 77-year-old woman unable to get her dentures, and many dental practices scrambling to survive

Governor Ralph Northam and State Health Commissioner M. Norman Oliver, MD, MA today directed all hospitals to stop performing elective surgeries or procedures to help conserve supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Licensed inpatient and outpatient surgical hospitals, free-standing endoscopy centers, physicians’ offices, and dental, orthodontic, and endodontic offices may perform any procedure or surgery that if delayed or canceled would result in the patient’s condition worsening. Outpatient surgical hospitals are encouraged to work with local inpatient hospitals to assist with surge capacity needs. The full text of Order of Public Health Emergency Two is available here
