Light and dark are the two most fundamental elements of photography. Light is used to create your subject and dark is used for contrast. Understanding this relationship between light and dark will empower you to understand your anatomy more effectively as well as be able to create better restorations.
When taking pictures, do you find that some of your pictures turn out yellow? You may have been using a flash, but realize that direction of the light can have a big effect on how your subject looks in the photo.
As you can see changing the angle of the light of the subject reveal the anatomy (4th picture) and different contrasting effects.
In dentistry, we need external source of light (flash) to capture and expose the subject appropriately.
