"Shenandoah Smiles" The Advanced Dental (Prosthodontic) practice of Dr. Purnima Shahani A Prosthodontist is a dentist who specializes in the restoration and replacement of teeth.

Dr. Shahani has received three years of additional training after dental school at Virginia Commonweath University in a Prosthodontic program that was accredited by the American Dental Association. Prosthodontists are the experts in dental rehabilitation and have mastered many procedures including: crowns, caps, bridges, veneers, removable partial dentures, dentures and dental implants. The Prosthodontist is best viewed as the "architect" of your dental project, who has the vision of your final outcome, both the esthetics of your smile and the improved function of your bite. Often other dental specialists may participate in your treatment to help establish a solid foundation for your restorations. Dr. Shahani will develop a treatment plan customized for each individual patient, and she will determine if adjunctive procedures by another doctor are necessary.

It’s been a while since we posted- we’ve been busy serving our patients! Here’s a couple of photos of a beautiful teenager Dr. Shahani treated last week, just before she headed back to school.

Dr.Shahani finished up this treatment on our second to last working day for 2024. It was a great way to end our year! Our patient was happy to have functional, beautiful teeth for Christmas. This case was a carefully curated blend of art and science.

We are at the end of an oral 'makeover' for a dear patient. We simply (not really so 'simple') made his teeth match the genuinely beautiful human he is- paying attention first to function and then making his smile gorgeous. We've been referring to him as "our husband" in conversation with his lovely wife, also a beloved patient of ours.
