According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, one person dies every hour from oral cancer and around 53,500 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer in 2020 in the US.

Since today and I ran the Oral Cancer Aware 5k!
I wanted to shed some light on this topic and keep you guys informed:

Oral cancer has a survival rate of 80-90% if detected early. Visiting your dentist is not just about us telling you to floss more or get your cleanings done every 6 months. As dentists, we perform oral cancer screenings periodically, which can save your life.

Smoking and excessive alcohol intake increases your risk of oral cancer. It is a stressful time for the entire world right now and its easy to turn to bad habits to ease the stress. Please, avoid smoking, va**ng, chewing to***co, ho**ah, etc during these difficult times and find other ways to destress. Some examples include facetiming with your loved ones, exercise, cooking/baking, reading a book.

HPV is also another risk factor for developing oral cancer. It is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the US. It's important to educate young adults regarding this subject.

So what do we do when we suspect a lesion? Every case is different and is treated appropriately. In general, if we see something suspicious a biopsy is recommended.

What can you do? Be active, you can do visual oral screenings on yourself in between your dental visit.

We are a patient oriented, high-quality, family dental practice looking for a RDH to join our family in Harper Woods border with Grosse Pointe Communities!
We provide general, dental implants, and aesthetics dentistry.
Digital Radiographs, CBCT.
You MUST be outgoing, caring, self-motivated and quality focused individual willing to work hard and be a team player.

2 days per week. No weekends.
