Nobody enjoys a root canal at 9am. Not the patient. Not the person doing it. And we are very good at doing them.

Here is the honest part though: a root canal is what saves the tooth. It is the appointment that keeps you from needing an extraction, an implant, and a much longer story.

That white patch where the pouch sits is called keratosis. It is thickened tissue reacting to repeated irritation. It is not nothing.

Gum recession in that exact spot. And gums do not grow back on their own. Once the root is exposed you are looking at sensitivity, a higher cavity risk on that surface, and a smile that starts to look longer in one area than the rest.

None of this is a lecture. Pouches got sold as the clean option, and a lot of people genuinely did not know the mouth part was a thing.

But if you have noticed a white patch or your gums look different on one side, get it looked at. Early changes are much easier to address than late ones.
