That’s the frustrating thing about TMD: there isn’t one single cause, so there isn’t one treatment that works for everyone.

Jaw discomfort may show up as clicking, tightness, tired facial muscles, headaches, difficulty chewing, or waking up feeling like your jaw worked all night. But those symptoms don’t tell the whole story.

Why does floss catch in the exact same spot every night?
Usually, there’s a reason.

It could be the shape or spacing between the teeth, buildup, decay, or the edge of an older filling or restoration. Sometimes it’s minor. Sometimes it’s your mouth’s way of telling you that area needs a closer look.

If your floss keeps shredding, snapping, or getting stuck in one spot, mention it at your next visit. A quick exam can usually help us figure out what’s going on.

No. And Dr. Hopkins clears up that misconception in this Reel.

A dental implant can be used to replace one individual tooth, with a custom crown placed on top. If two or three teeth are missing, treatment can also be planned around those specific spaces. The healthy teeth do not automatically have to come out just because an implant is being considered.

The right recommendation depends on the location of the missing tooth, available bone, bite, health, and what the replacement needs to do. That is why planning comes first.

Quick question: How old is your oldest filling?

If your honest answer is, “I have absolutely no idea,” you are very much not alone. Some dental repairs have been quietly showing up for work every day since flip phones were normal.

And when nothing hurts, it is easy to forget they are even there.

Older fillings and crowns do not automatically need to be replaced. During an examination, we may simply check:

• The edges where the repair meets the tooth
• Changes in wear
• Small cracks or lines
• The natural tooth and gums surrounding it
• How the restoration is handling your bite

Sometimes the plan is just to document what we see and compare it at future visits. No rush. No automatic treatment…just useful context.

So, honestly: do you know how old your oldest filling is?
