The “after” photo shows the dental result. What you don’t see is the level of protection used during the removal.

At Colorado Dental Wellness Center, we use the SMART Protocol, or Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique, a standardized approach designed to minimize mercury exposure during amalgam removal.

That includes protective measures such as tooth isolation, high-volume evacuation, air filtration, an alternative air source for the patient, and removing the filling in larger sections rather than grinding it into fine particles.

The before-and-after may show the visible change, but for us, how the amalgam is removed matters just as much as the final result.

What makes a dental practice biological? It starts with looking beyond the teeth.

At Colorado Dental Wellness Center, we consider how oral health may connect with the rest of the body. That means choosing biocompatible materials when appropriate, taking a conservative approach to treatment, and following protective protocols such as SMART Protocol for mercury amalgam removal.

Our whole-body approach also includes care for TMJ concerns, airway and sleep-related issues, myofunctional needs, and other factors that can influence long-term wellness.
