Pineapple juice after oral surgery? 🍍 Let’s clear it up.

You’ve probably seen the viral advice to drink pineapple juice before wisdom teeth removal to reduce swelling. Here’s the truth:

🍍 It’s not the pineapple juice itself that may help—it’s bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple.

The catch? Most pineapple juice contains much lower amounts of bromelain than the supplements used in research, so drinking juice isn’t likely to make a meaningful difference.

For the best chance at minimizing swelling after surgery, stick with what we know works:
🧊 Ice packs for the first 24–48 hours
💊 Ibuprofen (when it’s safe for you to take it and as directed by your surgeon)
😴 Rest and follow your post-op instructions
