"Pollen Season" has hit full throttle in Eastern North Carolina! 🌼🌳 For some people, allergy medications are needed DAILY to help with all of those pesky symptoms! These medications are typically antihistamines that dry up the runny nose and watery eyes. However, they can also make your mouth VERY dry, creating the perfect scenario for the bad bacteria in your mouth to flourish. This puts you at a higher risk for tooth decay. Here are some tips to counter the dry mouth when those allergy meds are a MUST:
✅ Make sure to maintain good home care (brushing and flossing)
✅ Try to incorporate a fluoride mouthwash daily
✅ Reduce sugar intake (including carbs that breakdown to sugar)
✅ Try to avoid things that typically cause dry mouth like: alcohol, to***co,
caffeine, and spicy or acidic foods
✅ Drink plenty of water throughout the day
✅ Stay up to date with your routine dental appointments and if you are
experiencing issues with dry mouth and have concerns or questions, call us!
