This fall, Greenville Oral Surgery’s own Dr. Derek Dunlap and his wonderful wife, Renee Dunlap, were once again honored to serve on a mission trip with a team from Buncombe Street Methodist Church in Greenville, SC, in partnership with Mission of Hope. The Dunlaps traveled to the communities of Constanza and Jarabacoa in the Dominican Republic — making this their third year serving on this life-changing mission.
Dr. Dunlap joined a dedicated team of volunteers, including our friend and referral partner Dr. Happy Holliday (photos 6-7!), to provide oral surgery care, restorative care, and other dental needs to hundreds of patients who otherwise would not have access to this level of treatment.
Mission of Hope partners with local churches and leaders across Haiti and the Dominican Republic to “transform lives through church advancement, nutrition, education, and medical care.” Through their work — and the commitment of volunteers like the Dunlaps — families in these communities and staff members at Mission of Hope receive not only vital medical care but also hope, compassion, and connection.
Dr. Dunlap said about his experience with Mission of Hope:
“Renee and I are always profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Constanza and Jarabacoa. Over the years, we’ve formed deep relationships with the families in these towns as well as with the staff members of Mission of Hope, and returning each year truly feels like coming home. With every trip, we look for ways to strengthen our impact. This year, we were blessed with new surgical chairs and updated equipment that allowed us to care for patients more comfortably and efficiently. When someone sits in our chair with tears of gratitude in their eyes, it reaffirms our calling — to serve, to love, and to share the gospel through compassionate care.”
