Airway health is something most people never think about… until something feels off. 👃

Snoring. Mouth breathing. Waking up tired. Brain fog. Restless sleep.

It is easy to brush these things off as normal. But they are often signs that the body is not breathing as well as it should.

And when breathing is off, sleep is affected. When sleep is affected, the whole body feels it.

At SOMA, we focus on how the airway, jaws, and oral structures all work together so we can help patients get better sleep and feel better day to day.

The shape of your palate tells a story.

A narrow, high palate is often linked to mouth breathing, low tongue posture, and airway development during childhood.

The palate and nasal floor are connected. When the tongue rests properly against the roof of the mouth, it helps guide healthy facial growth and supports a wider airway.
When it does not, the airway can become more restricted over time.
A high palate is not just about shape. It reflects years of function and development.
At SOMA, we look beyond teeth to understand the bigger picture behind your health.

Before she is a dentist, she is first a mother. 🤍

Dr. Dand knows what it feels like to search for answers and not get them.

She watched her daughter struggle with a shallow latch, sleepless nights, and constant crying. Like so many parents, she was told it was normal. That she would grow out of it.

But something did not sit right.

She wanted someone to listen. To look deeper. To find the why.

Over time, she began connecting the dots not just for her daughter, but within her own family. What once seemed like separate issues, like acid reflux, were later connected to airway health.

That experience shaped everything.

It is why she looks beyond symptoms.
It is why she listens closely.
And it is why she cares for patients the way she does today.

To every mom who feels like something is being missed, trust that instinct. 🌸

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at SOMA.

Let’s wish our favorite mama’s a happy Mother’s Day in the comments below! 💌

Most people think dentistry is just about teeth. 🦷

But there is so much more going on.

Airway dentistry looks at how your teeth, jaws, and oral structures affect the way you breathe and sleep.

Things like mouth breathing, tongue ties, and jaw development can all play a role in how well the body gets oxygen and rest.

It is not just about fixing symptoms. It is about understanding what is causing them in the first place.

At SOMA, we take the time to look at the full picture so we can help guide healthier breathing, better sleep, and overall wellness. 🌿

Kids do not always say they are tired, but their bodies often give clues. 💤

Here are 4 signs a child may not be getting quality sleep:

🗣️ Snoring or mouth breathing
🗣️ Tossing and turning at night
🗣️ Difficulty focusing or hyperactivity during the day
🗣️ Teeth grinding

When sleep is disrupted, it is often connected to how a child is breathing at night.

At SOMA, we look closely at airway health, jaw development, and breathing patterns to understand what may be affecting a child’s sleep. Identifying these patterns early can help support better rest and healthier development.

Better sleep can mean better focus, mood, and overall well being for growing kids. 👏

Know a parent dealing with restless sleep or mouth breathing? Send this their way. It might help them find answers. 🤔 ➡️

Most dentists look at your teeth.
We ask why your teeth got there in the first place.

That single shift changes everything about how care is delivered.

When a tooth breaks, most offices fix the tooth.
At SOMA, we ask why it broke.

Was the bite off?
Is there grinding connected to an airway issue?
Has inflammation been building for years?

When you treat the cause, not just the symptom, the results last.
Patients stop cycling through the same problems.
They understand their mouths.
They make better decisions with real information.

This is integrative, root-cause dentistry.
It takes more time. It asks better questions.
And it leads to outcomes that actually matter.

If dental care has ever felt like patchwork, you’re not wrong.
There is a different way.

Back from MARPE Masters, and my notebook is full. 🦷
MARPE (Mini-screw Assisted Rapid(Real) Palatal Expansion) lets us widen narrow upper jaws in adults — the same jaws often tied to crowded teeth, clenching, poor sleep, and mouth breathing.
Wider palate. Better airway. Healthier human.
This is why I keep showing up to these rooms. Our patients deserve a clinician who stays curious and treats the whole person, not just the tooth.

Spring allergies can do more than cause sneezing and runny noses. 🌸

For many kids, allergies start a chain reaction that looks like this:

Allergies
➡️ congestion
➡️ mouth breathing
➡️ poor sleep
➡️ developmental impact

When children cannot comfortably breathe through their nose, they often switch to mouth breathing. Over time that can affect sleep quality and even the way the jaw and face develop.

Addressing airway health, encouraging nasal breathing, and looking at how the jaws are developing can help children get better sleep and support healthy growth.

Noticing these patterns in your child?

Visit us online at www.somadentistry.com to schedule their consolation today; we’d love to help 🤍
