Spin Up Girl Fibers A Place for Friends and Fans of Spin Up Girl Fibers Howdy howdy! Spin Up Girl Fibers is my attempt at infusing a little sexy into the world of spinning.

I’m Crystal, aka crittlet on Ravelry, and I’m the fiber-obsessed madam behind Spin Up Girl Fibers. I’m a spinner, a knitter, an occasional crocheter, a dyer, a carder, a comber, and a lover of all things fibery. It’s home to a seductive array of hand-dyed tops – who I lovingly refer to as my painted ladies, carded batts - otherwise known as my Batty Broads, dyed locks – my Untamed Dames, and handspun yarns, who I like to think of as my Twisted Sistas. That’s a wrap on my first Spinzilla. I’m pleased. I managed to spin through everything except my CVM fleece, which I honestly didn’t think I’d get to anyway. I’d say over 2 miles of yarn is pretty dang good for a week’s worth of spinning. For me at least. And getting to know a few more fiber friends across the country is just icing on the cake. Looking forward to doing it again next year.

After plying the last of the burgundy and rust yarn, I started spinning the singles for my next yarn. This is Corriedale/silk given to me in a magic fiber ball swap. I’m spinning it quite fine and I’m really liking the look of my plyback test. I’ve got my plied yarns soaking at the moment. Pics will be forthcoming.

Day 3: Part 2

Finished plying one bobbin. Still on the fence about how these two colorways came together. On the bobbin, it feels like the grey has muddied things and the striping is a lot chunkier than I had intended. I’m usually pretty good at predicting how colors will come together, but not this time. Still hoping I’ll feel better about it seeing it skeined.

Finished spinning the merino/silk singles that I’ll be plying with the Corriedale from day 1. I’m about half way through plying these together and I’m already wishing I stripped these braids even more. Maybe I’ll feel different when I see it skeined up.

It’s 7:30pm and I’ve managed to spin half of this merino/silk top. Hoping to get the other half done tonight. Feels like it’s taking a little longer than the corriedale braid I spun yesterday. I think I’m getting more distance from the longer stapled silk, which makes sense. I’ll be interested to see how much gets left on the bobbin after I’ve plied.

I was up late into the night spinning, so pics had to wait till morning when I had better lighting. Four ounces of Corriedale are officially on the bobbin. I have another coordinating 4oz braid I plan to ply this with and I’m eager to see how the colors come together in the plied yarn. I’ve also discovered a highly entertaining YouTube channel to watch as I spin. It’s like mini nature documentaries told with dry comedic wit and crafty animations. If I had more thumbs, they would all be up for this guy.

Lovely day at Mendenhall Homeplace for their Village Fair. I always enjoy coming here to show off my wares. It’s a different crowd, which is probably why I love it so much. Upon arrival my aunt gifted me with a few bags of dog hair and I’ve been using it to demonstrate hand carding. 😂

Tour de Fleece 2026: I’ve been lazy and haven’t gotten around to taking pics of my finished sw merino. It’s lovely, but you’re gonna have to take my word on it for now. I also finished the thick singles for my crepe yarn. I’ll be spinning two more singles of bamboo to ply it with.
