October is extra special because we’re celebrating TWO big milestones for Terri — her 5-year work anniversary AND her birthday! 🥳💐For the past five years, Terri has been such an important part of our Greensboro Perio family. As Dr. Benitez’s Treatment Coordinator, she works hard behind the scenes to keep things moving, take great care of our patients and keep us BUSY! 😉 Her dedication and hard work definitely do not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for everything she does for our team. From infection to a new smile!
This patient presented with chronic microfracture associated with tooth #13, making extraction necessary. After carefully removing the tooth, we performed socket preservation to protect and rebuild the bone needed for future implant placement.
Once healing was complete and the site was ready, we successfully placed a dental implant to restore the missing tooth. From treating the underlying infection to preserving the bone and ultimately placing an implant, every step was important in creating a strong foundation for long-term success. 🦷🥳

What Happens If I Don’t Have Enough Bone for a Dental Implant?”
One of the most common questions we hear from patients considering dental implants is: “What if I don’t have enough bone?” Don’t worry—having bone loss doesn’t necessarily mean dental implants aren’t an option!
When a tooth is missing, the bone that once supported it can gradually shrink over time. If there isn’t enough bone to safely support an implant, we may recommend a bone graft or ridge augmentation to rebuild the area and create a stronger foundation.
Depending on your individual needs, this may involve:
Bone grafting – adding bone material to an area where bone has been lost.
Ridge augmentation – rebuilding the width or height of the jawbone to create adequate space for an implant.
Sinus augmentation – in certain upper-jaw cases, additional bone may be needed beneath the sinus.
After the grafting procedure, the area needs time to heal and develop into a strong foundation before the implant can be placed. This can add several months to the overall treatment timeline—but taking the time to build a proper foundation can make all the difference.
With careful planning and advanced periodontal procedures, bone loss doesn't always mean you have to give up on your implant dreams!

How Long Does the Dental Implant Process Take?
Dental implants are a journey—and sometimes, good things really do take time! ⏳
While every patient is different, the complete dental implant process can take several months to a year or more, depending on your individual needs.
Here’s a general look at what the journey may involve:
1️⃣ Consultation & Treatment Planning
We begin with a comprehensive evaluation to assess your teeth, gums, bone, and overall oral health. From there, we create a personalized treatment plan.
2️⃣ Bone Preparation — If Needed
Some patients may need procedures such as bone grafting or ridge augmentation before an implant can be placed. Healing from these procedures may take several months.
3️⃣ Dental Implant Placement
Once the site is ready, the dental implant is surgically placed into the jawbone.
4️⃣ Healing & Osseointegration
This is where patience pays off! The implant needs time to integrate with the surrounding bone and become stable. This healing period can take several months.
5️⃣ Final Restoration
Once the implant has fully healed, your restorative dentist can complete the process by placing the final crown, bridge or other restoration.
