👁️ June is Cataract Awareness Month!

Cataracts are a common age-related eye condition that can cause blurry vision, glare sensitivity, difficulty seeing at night, and faded colors.

The good news? Cataracts are highly treatable, and regular eye exams can help detect changes in your vision early.

If you've noticed changes in your eyesight, don't ignore them. Talk with your healthcare provider or schedule an eye exam to help protect your vision and overall quality of life.

Today we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and the rich contributions of Black Americans throughout history.

As we reflect on the significance of this day, we recognize the importance of equity, inclusion, and access to quality healthcare for all members of our community.

Happy Juneteenth from Siskiyou Community Health Center.

🌟 Employee Spotlight 🌟

This month we're shining the spotlight on Terra Anderson, Expanded Practice Dental Hygienist with our Siskiyou Smiles Dental Outreach Program! 🦷💙

Terra has been part of the Siskiyou Community Health Center family for nearly four years and plays an important role in bringing dental care directly to children throughout our communities. Through the Siskiyou Smiles program, she helps ensure students have access to preventive dental services right at their schools.

One of Terra's favorite parts of her job is driving the CareVan to local schools and seeing the excitement on students' faces as they wave and smile when the van arrives. She also loves being part of a caring and supportive team dedicated to serving those who need it most.

Outside of work, Terra enjoys gardening, hiking, mountain biking, reading historical fiction and memoirs, and spending time at the beach whenever she can. She also has a cat who keeps life interesting by attacking her curtains! 🐱

If she won $10 million, Terra says she'd buy a beach house and travel the world. 🌎☀️ Until then, you'll find her helping bring healthy smiles to children across our region.

Thank you, Terra, for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to our community. We're grateful to have you on the Siskiyou team! 💙

June is Aphasia Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about a condition that affects a person's ability to communicate.

Aphasia can impact speaking, understanding, reading, and writing, most often after a stroke or brain injury. While communication may be challenging, aphasia does not affect intelligence.

Recognizing the signs and understanding how to support those living with aphasia can help create more inclusive and compassionate communities.

If you or someone you know experiences sudden changes in communication, seek medical attention and talk with a healthcare provider.

For more information about aphasia, visit the National Aphasia Association at www.aphasia.org.
