Summer is all about lake days, road trips, backyard BBQs, and making memories, but a few common summer habits can be tough on your teeth.

☀️ Constantly sipping sugary drinks

Whether it’s soda, sweet tea, lemonade, energy drinks, or sports drinks, frequent sipping keeps your teeth exposed to sugar and acid for longer periods of time. It’s often better to enjoy your drink and then switch back to water rather than sipping all afternoon. We’re all about enjoying our bevvies in the sun, but be responsible.

☀️ Chewing ice

We know. It’s satisfying. But chewing ice can chip, crack, or weaken teeth over time, especially if you already have fillings or other dental work.

☀️ Using your teeth as tools

Opening snack bags, tearing tags, opening drink packets... we’ve seen it all. Unfortunately, teeth aren’t designed for these jobs and can crack more easily than you’d think.

☀️ Not drinking enough water

Summer heat can lead to dehydration, and saliva plays a huge role in protecting your teeth. A dry mouth can increase your risk of cavities, bad breath, and gum irritation.

☀️ Putting off your dental cleaning

Summer schedules get busy fast. Regular cleanings help us catch small issues before they become bigger problems, so don’t let your appointment get pushed to the bottom of the to-do list.

The good news? You don’t need perfect habits to have a healthy smile. Small choices add up, and a little awareness can go a long way.

That’s what coworkers are for right???

We discovered products this last year, and it’s safe to say we’ve become obsessed with recommending them, especially their products for kids.

They have toothpastes specially formulated for every stage of your child’s development, making it easier to support healthy oral habits from the very beginning.

One of the things we love most is that their products are designed with both parents and kids in mind. Great ingredients, age-appropriate formulas, and flavors kids actually enjoy can make brushing feel a lot less like a battle.

As dentists, we’re always looking for ways to help families make oral health a little easier at home, and this has been one of our favorite finds.

Have questions about what toothpaste is best for your child? Ask us at your next appointment, we’re always happy to help.

Except…You do not need to do that here.

Seriously.

We’re not interested in making anyone feel embarrassed or judged. Life happens. Anxiety happens. Insurance changes. Kids happen. Busy seasons happen.

We’re just happy you’re here.

If you’ve been putting off the dentist because you’re nervous about being “lectured,” this is your sign to book the appointment.

We’ll meet you with a smile and a game plan, not shame.

It’s like Friday the 13th over and over. Let’s talk about it:

1. TikTok dental hacks: We won’t write them all off as false, but there is plenty of misinformation out there. PLEASE check with your provider before trying anything you see online. You do not want to destroy your enamel / mess with your oral microbiome / etc.

2. ….need we say more? The tooth gems and things are cute, please don’t do them at home with some nail glue and a dream.

3. Fluoride-free toothpaste. We know there is A LOT of info around this. Based on all current and reputable data, there is nothing that suggests the small amount of fluoride found in toothpaste will create damage, and there is plenty of evidence that shows how much it helps your teeth. We recommend SUPERMOUTH toothpaste as it has both hydroxyapatite and fluoride.

4. Lemons are yummy. Lemon water? Refreshing. Eating lemons like it’s an apple? Fast track to eroding your enamel. Be mindful of acidity!

5. Hate to have to say this, but brushing with your finger and some toothpaste is no where close to what an actual toothbrush will do. Pls just use the toothbrush!
