White spots on your kid's front teeth? Most parents assume they're stains. They're 🦷
They're tiny pores inside the enamel, underneath an intact outer layer. Air and water sit in those pores and bend light differently than the healthy tooth around them, which is what makes them look chalky and bright. Brushing won't touch them. Neither will whitening.
I treated this young patient with resin infiltration. A thin resin soaks into the pores and bends light almost the way natural enamel does, so the spots blend into the tooth.
Here's what most people don't realize though. Sealing those pores also blocks acid from getting deeper, so you're actually stopping the lesion, not just covering it up.
