Something I always recommend especially now that people can’t get their dental cleanings is a water p*k. These are especially helpful for patients with periodontal disease. Now water picks DO NOT replace flossing, instead they make a great team! Floss (when used correctly) can clean the sticky layer of plaque on the tooth(similar to a scrubby sponge to the slimy layer of dogs water bowl). The high pressure water can’t clean that sticky layer. However floss can only clean 1-3 mm below the gum line. In a healthy mouth that’s fine but in a patient with deeper periodontal pockets (space between the tooth and gum) the water p*k can at least clean the loose plaque and food debris deeper than the floss. So they both do something the other can’t. So If you have always wanted to try one but never had the time, this is the perfect time and most essential time to start. You can buy them online and not even step into a store. Below are some I found on amazon. I like the ones with a reservoir for water because you can add a little mouthwash to the water if you want. However some people like the convenience of the one that attaches to your shower head. Also make sure the one you buy allows you to change the pressure or strength of water spray because not everyone will like the highest pressure so it’s important you can control that for your comfort.
